Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good sun lotion to use on my 4yr old granddaughter. She will be in and out of the pool quite a lot so preferably something that is water resistant. Could you also recommend a good lotion for adults.

Thank you

Lyndon :)

Ultrasun deals with both and is a once a day application. Although initially expensive it last 3 years when open so lasts without a problrm:thumbsup2. You can get it in Waitrose and Qvc

Hi

I have bought this for our upcoming trip

Soltan Once Kids 8 Hour Play Hypoallergenic Suncare Lotion SPF50

it's boots own - I like the fact that their products have 5 star protection rating and that this product is supposed to last longer than average.

I would be happy to apply it only once in the uk but while we are in Florida I plan to reapply as I feel necessary.

I think it also offers 1 hour protection in water - I'm sure on the bottle it said 2 :confused3 but haven't got that to hand at the moment, however on the website it says 1

For DH and me we usually buy ours when we are there to reduce the amount of bottles in the luggage

I posted a thread about p20 - it lasts all day and is quick-drying. It is described as 'very water resistant'. I love the stuff! My children have been in and out of the paddling pool these past few days and I have not needed to reapply. It is currently better than half price in Sainsbury's.:thumbsup2

This is what we use and have never had the slightest hint of sunburn. It's great !

I don't have a specific recommendation but wanted to give some advice.

1) Whatever you choose, try it out before you go and make sure no one has a reaction to it. Even if you used it last year, you could have a reaction. My daughter developed an allergy to something in most sun creams when she was 2, having had no problem before that. It gives her a horrible itchy rash that lasts for a week if we use the wrong cream.

2) Reapply after swimming, whatever the bottle says. It may well be water resistant, but it's not towel resistant. You're so much better off reapplying before it's needed than not reapplying when it is.

We use the Coppertone ones that we buy there. The are spray on - no rub in :)

DD-4 uses the kids factor 50 and we use the sport 30 or 15.

They spray on like a fine mist and none of us burn. We only reapply when at the water parks and none of us burnt.

I use the same it is brilliant. Because it is a spray there is no rubbing it and you don't get any patches that are missed like you can with cream. I brought some back last year and will certainly stock up again next year. It takes seconds to apply and my dd doesn't mind having it reapplied at all xx

I love the Nivea Sun Light Feeling lotion. It's absorbed instantly, so no stickiness which is very important for me, especially when reapplying on the go.

How much sun lotion should we take for three weeks...just for granddaughter and wife. I know this will vary but just a rough guide.

Has anyone ever tried Sunsense Ultra SPF 50+. Apparently it was developed in Australia and has very high protection plus it is 4 hours water resistant. It is also good for people with skin conditions and in certain circumstances can be got on prescription [some people have said it can only be prescribed in certain areas due to spending. Whether this is true or not I really don't know].

I have seen it on amazon 125ml-£10.42 or 500ml in pump dispenser-£25.13.

We don't take it - I order mine online for delivery to the resort. I work on a 200 ml bottle per week for 2 of us and a separate cream or stick for our faces which lasts the whole trip.

I now only use Australian Gold. Having used numerous products in the past this is what I stick with. It's water resistant, smells wonderful and we have not even turned the slightest bit pink using this, despite spending pretty much all our daylight hours out in the sun.

good to hear.
off to OZ in March and thinking of buying a spray.
Theyre so expensive and just wanted to make sure they are worth it.

Applying sun tan just seems to take ages, will be good to do it much quicker and not have the greasy feeling after. :thumbsup2
been saving up my boots points, so it may even be free.

Do you find you use much more with a spray?
just wondering how much to buy, although may pinch my brothers when we're in OZ.

I actually bought the Coppertone aerosol sun cream from WDW as well. It's really excellent.

We used Soltan and Malibu products and both the adults and kids burned through them. Not impressed.

We switched to the factor 50+ kids waterproof aerosol cans and never had a problem after. Perfect, even coverage, no need to rub in and quick and easy to apply.

I am totally with you on spray vs creams! As you say, even coverage is a major plus and for me, I can't stand cream on my hands :crazy2: Yuck! There is only one drawback I found a few years ago to spray vs cream: I had my then 6 year old spray my back and the wind was blowing. She also manage to place a mickey head shaped sticker on my back so I had a white 'tattoo1 to go with the streaks. I looked like a tie-dye product :lmao:

Where online do you order from please?

I see in another reply of yours that you like the spray vs creams. Do you use the Australian Gold in the spray or can it only be bought in lotion/cream?

Well they are a tad more expensive so I can kinda see the downside, but for us it was totally worth it. So much so, we are going to Portugal on Friday and I've shipped in the aerosol creams from eBay :thumbsup2

You should thank your daughter... People would pay a fortune for a tat like that :rotfl:

Institut Esthederm Adaptasun sun are range comes highly recommended, expensive but it works totally differently to the normal 'SPF' rating. Adaptasun protects against extreme sun and it increases your skins natural defences against the sun. I have bought the spray, lotion and face cream and am excited about trying it out in Orlando in September!
