sun cream reccomendations ??

If it helps tesco were doing nivea spray for half price. We normally go with factor 30 for the first few days and if we are ok drop to 20. I too am a fair skinned redhead that normally has to just look at the sun and I burn but I find that the 30 is strong enough. For kids my sister always puts 50 on my niece when ever she is in the sun.

Nivea spray is great for us because it is really quick and easy to apply and it does not leave you with white streaks.

small tip i find that when i wear sunglasses the bit on my cheek bone where my glasses touch my face tends to get slightly pink because the glasses rub off the cream so I used a lip balm spf normally boots own soltan just as a top up on my nose as well plus as its only a small lip balm it goes in your pocket. suncream in DH cargo shorts pocket.

Has anyone used P20 once a day? My SIL swears by it and she is a freckly red-head. I'm thinking of getting some as it doesn't stain.:confused3

I used to work for boots as a suncare consultant and would always use soltan! Never used anything else, but if I did it would have to be 5 star UVA rated, which some brands are not. Also love the smell of soltan, I have a sniff when out shopping and it takes me right into holiday mode :-)

Another vote here for Soltan, I would use this above everything else. I usually take 25 and 15, I burn a lot easier than my other half. Last year I took the pump spray for the water parks, and the Once for the theme parks, even with the Once I applied at least twice a day, think it's good for 6 hours or so.

Face wise, I would always wear a hat, and I generally don't put suncream near my forehead because my mum did it once and we spent 1 1/2 hours at Universal getting her eyes irrigated because the cream with sweat had dripped into them, so always wear a hat to avoid this. Apart from that I've used Soltan face stick factor 50, which was quite good, and last year I used the Soltan Once for the face (with gradual tan) factor 25, this is great, my face didn't burn and you can use it before you go to build up a base.

I'm also quite keen to try an aerosol sun cream, as rubbing the cream in can get messy, especially if you are in a park and not near the loos. I ended up taking a face cloth with me last time so that I had something to get the cream off my fingers.

im going to look into aerosol ones too - when we were in mexico all the americans were using them adn we got some in the hotel shop that were fragrance free and really high factors !

i might even check out the cream on garden grocer as we are doing our order on thursday woohoo !!

Puz Buin once a day or P20 - we use either. P20 is on offer in our local Asda at the moment...big one for £20. Have to agree with everyone about how intense the sun is in Florida. Even with the once a day creams we apply twice during the day - once before going to the parks in the morning and then again in the afternoon when hitting the pool!!

We love the Piz Buin all day stuff.

Buy it in SPF 15 and have used it for both WDW trips and never burned once. (Well, except the morning I did my face and upper arms but not my forearms......mistake!)

I really like not having to carry it around with us.

We use Clinique factor 30 on our faces as I hate that oily feeling you get from suncream, so I buy a special facial one.

Me too! just the smell of sun cream makes me think of holidays, such a great feeling!

I'm exactly the same with the whole facial sun cream thing! I'm a complete Clinique junkie (all my skin care/make up is Clinique! :thumbsup2) I wear their City Block SPF25 everyday of the year under my make up (which also has SPF!) and I love it so much. My skin has improved loads from it too so their range def gets my vote.

Will be looking into getting our sun creams soon, hopefully they will still have lots of offers on as it's so expensive! :sad2:

Yep, should have said, I use Clinique City Block too but the SPF40 one. Doesn't feel greasy at all, more like a make up base......

Ali :goodvibes

I bought the Boots Soltan set that is available in store and online right now - a factor 15, factor 30, factor 50 for kids and an aftersun, all 200ml bottles for a grand total of £12.99! Great buy but cant see it lasting so I'd get in their fast!! :thumbsup2

Last time we were in FL I needed stronger sun cream (i have fair skin and always burn :(), and I ended up buying some factor 70 too :scared1: The make was "Ocean Potion" I think, so quite similar to Banana Boat. It was so good, and haven't seen anything as high here.

It was great because it was a spray, and went on completely clear. So not much rubbing, which is good because I hate the whole cream deal :headache:

I'm gonna get some more when I'm out there this summer, but to start off and to tie me over until I can get some, I'm taking some Banana Boat clear sun spray. That's great stuff too! I think it's the sport type...

Anything that is "waterproof" and doesn't need much rubbing in is a winner in my book :)

I love Banana Boat, the spray is so good.....not sure if you have a B and M Bargain near you, but I got some of the sport one for £3.99....bargain

sainsburys own brand is really good, uva 5*. right now its half price (factor 50 200ml only £3.49). i used this all last yr, and it was fantastic

Avon used to do one with insect repellent in which was brill but they dont do it anymore. Bout the Bannana boat tin for DD and is very good. I also like the nivea sport.Always take a waterproof as well and no less than a 30. You burn even in the shade:wizard:

My nearest B&M is in Ponty, so will have to check that out :)

I got my Banana Boat stash in Tkmaxx last month - it cost £4.99 there. I think I would've been gutted if I'd seen it for £3.99 after paying the RRP of £9.99! Thankfully that's not the case though :goodvibes

I used my Tesco clubcard reward vouchers and doubled them up under their current exchange offer (£5 voucher become £10 off suncare voucher). They also had a half price offer on Nivea so that's what I went with. DS in particular hates the suncream ritual but he doesn't mind the clear sprays and Nivea had a F50 clear spray - bingo! I've bought loads of F50 for Florida and some F30 for home. Still need to get some sunblock for lips/noses/cheeks and something for my DH's bald patch (he does wear a hat but even taking it off for 5 mins can cause sunburn as it's a sensitive area!)

I really like Australian Gold- Its a US suncream that the local pharmacist recommended to us at walgreens.

You can buy it in all drugstores when you get to Orlando(even walmart/publix)- it isn't greasy at all, not like some of the suncreams that we can buy here. Comes in low to high factors and smells amazing!!! My DH has really sensitive skin and this one doesn't cause any problems for him.

I use the coppertone baby 50+ spray for DD- so easy to use. :D

I can vouch for soltan.....used it on dd last summer on a really hot day, wiped the excess on my arms and shoulders, I ended up with a burnt back/shoulders with a white hand print on shoulder blade where I'd put the last of the suncream....oops BUT at least I know it protects the kids. ALso bought the aftersun spray. Will be buying more this year. I like Piz buin for us adults. I'm a bit fussy with kids tho. They get covered head to toe then a sun block stick to the feet, knees (sitting in buggy they stick out) cheeks, nose, ears etc etc. Very fair skinned kids I have tho and they've never burnt. Altho Dylan has only seen UK sun so far :thumbsup2

Very interesting thread! :thumbsup2

I've always used Nivea sun protection (*** that's what brand of cleanser / toner / moisturiser I use - my face reacts to other things).

We had spray bottles last year, I think they were SPF 30 and 50, plus tiny bottles of kiddy SPF 50 to carry around with us, which we all used. No burning at all, in fact, I didn't even tan, it's that good! I went home whiter than I arrived in Florida, as I'd had a fake tan done before we went on holls! :rotfl2: (I'd also rather be pale and interesting than risk skin cancer, but that's my personal choice).

However...
I can't use it on my face, as my eyes just STREAM constantly if I do (so I'm intrigued by other people's comments about SPF for faces)...
And my T-shirts all came back stained round the neck, sleeves, and anywhere I'd touched them! So also interested to see if anyone has any suggestions for brands which don't stain...
