can anyone tell us about the sun. 4/27 7day eastern i was wondering if you can get burned real quick down there hate to ruin our vacation that way;)

We did the 3/23 and did fine until CC. During the week we were in and out of the sun but at CC we were in it all day. I would definitely reapply sunscreen at lunch and probably put t-shirts on!It is hot and strong. We used the Coppertone sport 30!!!!!!

The sun can be very intense in Florida and even more so in the Caribbean. I believe it has to do with being closer to the sun and to the equator.

One important fact about using sunscreen is that you need to apply it at least 15 to 30 minutes before you go into the sun. In most cases, if you apply it in your cabin before you go out, it would be enough time to let it begin to work. I also suggest reapplying it often, especially after being in the water.

In the event that someone does get sunburned, they have a very good product called 'After Sun' for sale in the Treasure Ketch shop on deck 4. I think it's made by Coppertone and it comes in a large bottle, it's a green gel that has Aloe in it.

Within 90 minutes of applying it after a bad sunburn, I felt relief and had very little problems with it after that.

Also, if anyone is taking medications and especially antibiotics, it's worth the time to review any precautions associated with being in the sun while taking them.

I normally don't tan much at all and even with spf 15 waterproof I got quite dark from the day at CC. make sure you bring very strong sunscreen and you might just want to bring a product from Solarcaine called AloeExtra burn relief for anyplace you miss. I work in a job where getting hot surface burns happens all to often and this can actually reverse damage if gotten to quick enough. It provides very instant relief from sunburn.

(edit) albiats, you beat me to it! lol. I think we're talking about the same item as well :)

Tony... I live on Long Island and the kids got sunburned on their face and neck today while we were doing yard work. I know St Thomas and Florida's sun is burning HOT.

SUNSCREEN,SUNSCREEN,SUNSCREEN if you don't want to ruin your vacation.

I tried to apply my own sunscreen on St. Thomas and after I burned you could see the finger marks on my back where I tried to reach the middle. That was March 2001 and as of today you can still faintly see where I burned 13 months ago. Use that sunscreen and let someone else do your back!!!

I don't know......I am probably the under-norm person here.......but....first......I am VERY fair (freckles, blonde hair and all)...We were in WDW for 7 days prior to the 7 day cruise. I got burned....BUT not bad in WDW...the weather was upper 80's all week. The kids got a "good tan".....with limited sunscreen on them. When we went to the cruise.......I actually didn't use any sunscreen.....AND I didn't put any on the kids.....except their noses and cheeks. We really didn't get that much........not what I expected....anyway. I guess they say that the bahama island sun is more intense.......but I truefully think that the sun in FL was alot more intense than when we were on the ship

Last year when i was on Disney wonder in July, i got really badly burnt on my back after CC. I usually tan very easily and only need to use minimal ammount of sunscreen. It seemed like it was only CC that i got burnt on because i was outside the whole time. Using the Aloe helped alot but i was still burnt when our vacation was over. But lucky me, my sunburn turned into a nice dark tan later on in the summer!

No amount of tan is worth getting skin cancer (or wrinkles later in life). DH is a redhead with freckles, and, while I'm much darker, I've had skin cancer. We both used a #45 waterproof product made for babies, borrowed from my granddaughter. I can't remember which product, but it came from Wal-Mart, and it worked wonders. We applied it right after showering each morning, and then regularly throughout every day, regardless of what our plans were. We were very careful to cover every spot that might be exposed--except the day we went to CC. Somehow or other I missed that little spot between my bathing suit strap and my underarm area in the back, and got quite burned there. It looked really funny for a few days, and hurt like--well, I'll leave that part up to your imaginations!

I always wear sunscreen, even at home, even in the winter. An unexpected fringe benefit of that (I've been doing it since I was young enough that my mother used to apply it!) is that, even at the advanced age of almost 50, I have no sun-induced wrinkles or dry skin!

I just had 25 pre-cancers (skin cancers) burned off of my face, ears, nose and arms. I get to do this about every year. The doctor uses liquid nitrogen on a swab to burn each one until they blister. Does it hurt? Yes, it does.
I use the Coppertone Sport Spray (SPF 35 and higher) several times a day on my face and hands. I wear long sleeved shirts and wide brim hats. I have been doing this for about the last 10 years but the doctors say I am paying for the sins of my youth. We wore shorts and nothing else when we were kids. Stayed outside all day. We lost layers of skin each year to sunburn but just laughed it off.
I say all of that to say this:
The rays of the sun are stronger now than ever. Children who are getting burned now will pay later as well as the adults. Take time to put on a good sunscreen. Reapply after swimming or exercise.
While on board ship you will have a constant breeze and not realize you are burning until it is too late.
Sorry for the downer reply but I would hate for anyone to have to go through what I do each year if they can help it.
