Due to a recent, serious burn injury, our 2 year old son will need to avoid the sun. I considered canceling our trip, but our doctor said a family vacation would be good for us.

We do need to be extra vigilant regarding sun exposure to make sure he heals with as little scarring as possible.

He'll be in a compression garment, wearing a large hat (not looking forward to this battle :) ) and we'll be slathering on the sunscreen but I was hoping for any tips regarding planning activities, securing shady spots, and keeping him inside when required.

This will be our first Disney Cruise and we are really looking forward to doing it all, but of course his recovery is our first priority.

I wasn't sure if this should be on the DISabilities board or the Cruise board so I'm cross posting to start out. Hope that it is ok.

Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts and ideas,
Nicole

you don't say which ship you will be on , But Magic(and I assume Wonder) has PLENTY of shady spots outdoors where he could hang out. the pools will be right out, of course, as there are exposed, but between the kids clubs and other indoor activities I am sure that he will be plenty busy.

this assumes he is potty trained and can utilize the kids clubs...

tip...tip...tip (I wish someone had told me this YEARS ago) We are kinda in the same boat (no pun intended)...

Go to your local outdoor or sports store and invest in what is called “endurance wear”... It's what bicyclist wear to keep them cool on longer rides... It's UVA/UVB retardant and A LOT cheaper than specialty catalog clothes especially when little ones tend to actually GROW a lot...

Can you use the pools at night after sun set? That might save a lot of fights over going swimming.

Hi I would look into aircon in your cabin and indoor schedule of activities. I had a burn (not major) on my foot when I was 16. 8 weeks later I went on holiday, kept the foot covered as doc had said, but the heat caused it to re-blister, even though it was never in direct sunlight. You may need to look at day indoor activities and then come out to swim etc. first thing before sun up and in evening after sun set. Good luck and I hope the tot recovers well.
