I haven't been to Disney yet, but I've been doing a lot of research like the rest of you! Summit Plummet looks so tall and scary to me, I'd debating whether I should let my 9 and 11 yo kids go on it. I've read that you reach speeds of 60mph. I sit in my office near the interstate and look out there thinking "that's how fast my kids will be going in their swimsuits".

Rationally I've never heard of anyone being seriously injured except for maybe a bad wedgie. I know that Disney wouldn't even have the attraction if it was dangerous.

Any veterans want to share their experiences with me? Personally, I'm scared of heights and know I won't go on something high without being strapped in! If I let them go, Dad will have to take them!

That was my reaction the first time I climbed that very, very scary staircase leading up to Summit. Well, OK, the word following Holy wasn't cow. It took a whole lot of nerve for me to actually slide down that sucker, but I did it... and it falls, at least for me, into the category of "once in a lifetime" in that once in this lifetime was enough! It was a terrifying experience and, more importantly, I thought it kinda hurt. The water was whipping SO fast that I felt as if a lot of little needles were pushing into my flesh. Of course, it's over so quick that it's not all that bad (although it proves that under certain circumstances, time really DOES slow down!).

Blizzard Beach is the only Disney water park I've ever hit, and I absolutely loved it. But SP wasn't for me (and I love thrill rides). I guess how the kids would do on it depends on how much they like heights, speed... you know, all the ingredients of a thrill ride.

Whatever you do, please, please, please don't make the mistake I saw several parents make: Dragging their kids up that staircase, kicking and screaming, and forcing them to go down the hellish slope. I felt SO bad for those kids!

On another note: Congrats on your first Disney trip! You certainly came to the right place - this board - for not only planning, but great tips from frequent visitors and answers on just about anything youcould want to know! Like many of the other posters here, I absolutely love helping people plan their trips, so if there's anything I can do to help, or questions I can (try to) answer, don't hesitate to hit me with a message!

My 8yo DS and 11yo DD both love Summit Plummet (and Humonga Cowabunga at Typhoon Lagoon). DH and I won't ride it but one walks with the kids to the top while the other waits for their imminent arrival at the bottom.

If your kids want to ride it I'd say go for it.

My 8 yo daughter rode it last year and can't wait to go back and have another ride. She was definitely the smallest one in line. I wouldn't do it! A man in front of her split his trunks from hem to waistband. I think there is more danger to your suit than to your body.

Last year our then 11 yo daughter, 8 yo son, and I did it a couple of times. It was a very cool! Everyone liked it. Just remember to keep your legs crossed!

Scary, yes. Dangerous, no!

The first 1/2 second is scary. The rest is pure fun.

The worst bit is sitting down at the top waiting to go!I nearly chickened outbut as there were women & children waiting behind me I had to go!Macho-LOL!I thought it would be a piece of cake as I had done both "DEr Stuka"& "Dive bomber" at WnW but have to admit thatI wasn't prepared for how high it looks! The ride it's self is ok if a little rough, don't know if it rides different for different weights,I'd say if they are game let them go!

Thanks to all of you for responding. Gotta love these boards! I've definitely decided to let my kids go if they so desire. As for me, I'm going to be waiting for them at the bottom! When grown men respond that they were a little unnerved, I'm not taking any chances! (I'm really fun to drive through the mountains with. My kids think I have a lot of entertainment value!)

My one and only time on summitt plummet went like this: the 10year old kid I took to WDW taunted me, "I dare you, scardy cat, coward, you big baby" Her mom: Come on honey don't pick on poor Daryl, he has a right to be scared if he wants to" Now I love water parks but that thing is high, but with about 100 people doubled over in laughter I had to take the plunge...It was like jumping off a 10 story building....when I got to the bottom I waited 30min. Finally a teenager came over and said "hey dude the lady and the little girl totally bailed". Wish I had, not for the faint of heart, but if you like a good, long, safe, quick, fall, this slide's for you.:D :D :D

I am so glad this thread was started I too have been wondering not for my DD8 but for myself. She will not even think twice about it, me on the other hand that is another story... I love thrill ride but that whole 60mph with no seat belt or steel cage enclosure makes me a little weary:eek:

In reading everyone's posts, I've just come to the stunning conclusion that I... oh, I can't even say it... I am a big, whiny scardey cat! Me, who loves IOA’s The Hulk, laughs at Tower Of Terror.

I hang my head in shame.

but isn't there a threat of an undesirable enema effect? Just don't want that at 60 MPH!!!

I'm sorry - I do digress!
