Summit Plummet Question

My family are considering a water park visit during our trip next June. We have never been to either BB or TL. My children will then be 8 and 5 (and the 5 YO is a HUGE scaredy-cat). My 8 yo desperately wants to do Summit Plummet, and she is well beyond tall enough. She is 54 inches now, and will likely be close to 56 inches by June.

That said, is Summit Plummet ok for an 8 year old? It LOOKS quite intense and I certainly won't be getting on it... but she wants to. I just don't want her scared to death such that she refuses to get on it even when she is older. I am wondering if we should avoid BB for another year or so and let her to Summit Plummet when she is a bit older, or would my daredevil be perfectly ok at age 8 on this particular ride?

Thanks!

I say let her do it! My DS11 is also very tall and has been doing summit plummet since he was 7. He absolutely loves it. I, on the other hand, am way too scared to do it. (although to my knowledge no one has never died on it! ;) ) It's something DS and DH always do together and more power to them! We've got great shots of them on our photopasses from different trips. She may see it and change her mind but if she doesn't, let her try it out and encourage her all the way.

Just to let you know, you can all ride the chairlift up to where Summit starts and whoever doesn't ride SP can take the nice, winding, family raft back down.

So even if she does decide not to go, there are still options.

My 6 year old daughter is 49 inches and did Summit Plummet multiple times in July and loved it. On the other hand, her brother just did it for the first time and he is 9 (he wasn't going to be outdone by his younger sister). I think it depends more on the personality and wishes of the child than age.

Your kids are perfect ages for BB. My kids loved the big slides at that age, so let her try. As a PP said, if she chickens out, the family raft ride is so much fun.

"Slush Gusher" is the smaller slide next to Summit Plummet. It has two humps and is far less intimidating. But it is still really fast.

Try Slush Gusher first. Must be 48" tall. My timid 8 y/o did it and liked it. I did it and liked it. Perhaps a very slight sting from the water, but not at all painful.

Summit Plummit is a lot of fun. I wouldnt have done it at age 8, but I was a bit scared of stuff like that until I got a few years older. I agree with the others, if she wants to try it, let her have a go at it. Worst thing that can happen, she decides not to do it at the last minute. I'm sure she wouldnt be the first person to back out. It really is a lot of fun though :)

My daredevil DD did the slush gusher at 7, and summit plummet at 8. She loved it.
You know your daughter's personality, but if she's anything like mine, she'll either love it, or pretend she loved it out of sheer bravado.
But if you don't want her to do it, don't let her. I think slush gusher is a good compromise.

Thanks for the suggestion to try Slush Gusher before Summit Plummet. I think my older two (ages 12 and 15) will definitely want to do it. DD9 is only 49 inches but a high-dive daredevil, and I think trying a medium/big slide first will either scare her off or have her running to get on Summit Plummet!

If she really wants to do it, I say let her! It's not like she doesn't want to go and you're making her. She wants to and should have a chance to decide whether she likes it or not. If she doesn't and she is scared of it forever, so be it. At least she got to ride it when she wanted to. You'll never know unless you try. I went on it and it's not as bad as it looks. The worst part is when you get into the slide and look down while you're waiting for the person in front of you to get out. And then you have to make yourself go. But it's not like a scary ride that seems to drag on forever. It's over in a very quick 2 seconds. Don't keep her away from it if she wants to do it. And who knows, she may back out at the last second. Then you can go on the family raft ride, which is really quite fun. But I wouldn't recommend Slush Gusher. It's painful. You go airborne on the bumps and then hit the slide.

I say if she wants to do it let her. My dd was 8 when we last went and did Summit Plummit multiple times. I stood at the bottom and took the pics. You won't catch me flying down that thing.:rotfl:

I am 29 and too scared to go on summit plummet lol. I did do the smaller one and I think I still have a piece of bathing suit lodged in my butt from it

Is it really that big a deal, enough that you would skip BB completely, if she doesn't like it and never rides again.

Its not like you taking a 3 year old on the HM and it scares him so much that he won't go on it ever again and now avoids all dark rides even when he is older.

Let her do it, she is growing up and wants to push the boundaries in her life a little.

I would just make sure what ever bathing suit she wears can handle it. ;)
