If you can go the last week or two of August, that seems to be the best time. Wait times, especially mid week, are typically pretty low, or at least have been the last 2 years. I’ve been mid July and early August and it definitely seems busier than the reports I hear about late August. Generally speaking, July is busier than August. Back to school starts in August and the crowds lessen. Keys/Passholders are usually blocked out until mid-August which helps with crowds. Late August generally is less crowded then earlier in August but you have all the keys/passholders mostly unblocked. Haunted Mansion usually goes down in Mid-August for the change to the holiday overlay so if you want to see HM go before August 15th.

Well, August in Hawaii is pretty miserable, so I'd make your trip as early in the summer as possible.

I’m a teacher so we are stuck with breaks. Since Hawaii is so far away from us (NY area) the only extended time I get off is summer, so that’s what we are stuck going.

Totally side note I am seeing a lot of people who do Disneyland and than Hawaii -- is this super common?

We were going to go in August but ended up doing a holiday trip instead. I have heard August can be hot and you will need a mid day break, but not unbearable. With the reservation system I think they control the crowds a little bit better.

I’m not sure it’s common. We are just east coast and the flight to Hawaii is 11 hours, so I thought going to California would split it up a bit. Plus we think our daughter would enjoy Disneyland more than an extended stay in Hawaii. So since we were traveling that way anyway, we decided to just do both.

Plus we think our daughter would enjoy Disneyland more than an extended stay in Hawaii. So since we were traveling that way anyway, we decided to just do both.

Actually not a bad idea at all. We might have to consider this for a future vacation.

I am from NY area. I have done that....It is very nice and you get to adjust to the time differences easier.

Back in the 90s we did a combination Disneyland/Hawaii vacation. We had a great time in Disneyland with our young son, and then....flew smack dab into Hurricane Iniki which is another story....

We have had a lot of great July DLR trips. We did what you are doing backwards in July a while back. We went to Hawaii, and then stopped for a few days at DLR on the way home. I thought that would be a good way to adjust to the time change on the way home--- I knew going to Hawaii we would be too excited to let the change slow us down, but coming back might be rough. It worked out really well, because we were unlucky enough to have a tropical storm heading towards Hawaii while we were there, so we sadly flew out of Hawaii a day early, but happily added another day in the parks.

When in Hawaii I can tell the people from the East Coast--they are the ones walking on the beach at 3:00 a.m.. The West Coast people are the ones walking on the beach at 6:00 a.m.
