Summer visitors-How do you protect stroller/stuff from rain?

We are planning our first summer trip and I am planning for brief (hopefully), but heavy, daily downpours, to interrupt our touring. We will likely rent a double stroller most days and some days just take my own umbrella stroller for our youngest. How do you protect the stroller? Do you cover it with a special rain cover, a poncho? Also, what about the rentals? They are hard plastic so I am guessing they have drain holes but anything you leave in there could be soaked.

The rental strollers do not have drain holes, unfortunately. I have a back/front double stroller and I usually just put a adult size poncho over the top of it and it works fine. They do make a special made cover for it. I have seen it at babies R us. I go to Disney a lot and have learned my lesson when it comes to rain! You might try two pnchos on the rented stroller and bring a beach towel with you. Also, don't leave anthing in the stroller that you don't want to get wet! My kids love riding under the poncho in the rain!

We have used the raincover from babies r us for our past tree Disney trips and it has worked out great! Keeps everything perfectly dry. Has mesh holes on the sides so baby can ride in the stroller while the raincover is on without getting hot. I can't remember what I paid for it but it wasn't very expensive. I am not sure if the raincover would be big enough to fit the rented strollers.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who's used one of the BRU raincovers on a rental - whether or not they fit, etc? Thanks

I always used the BRU type cover on our single but never tried one on a double rental. They are great as they fit well, the child can see well and they have ventilation. I also like the "real" cover as it covers the childs feet better.

www.allearsnet.com has an entire section on stroller faq, maybe she has the dimensions so you can see if the bru ones are big enough. They also have the double covers at right start to make getting the dimensions of the double cover easier.

I have used a clear plastic poncho on a WDW double and that worked well. Just bring along some small clips to secure the poncho.

Another thing to remember is that if the double rental gets soaked you can just go to the rental place and exchange it for a dry one.

At wdw esp in the summer you can get a downpour anytime, most especially in the afternoon. If we were leaving the stroller for any length of time I would cover it or leave it under cover (POTC for example).

We used a waterproof backpack and when dd's were very young I had a few of those neat sheets - they are great.

We always take the Graco rain cover for the double stroller. It is wonderful!

We've never rented a stroller, so I'm sorry I'm no help there. Great question though! I'm looking forward to seeing some suggestions since we are going to bring our new Pliko for the baby and probably will rent a double for the older girls.

For an umbrella stroller, your average garbage bag will do the trick (and only cost you pennies). Cover the stroller and take yourselves inside to wait out the rain. I have also asked one of the shops in the park for a large bag when it looked like it was going to rain, and lined the seat with it so at least that stayed dry.

My stroller came with a rain cover (it's English ) and we would attach it every morning in the rainy season. A WDW rain poncho also works in a pinch, but then it's all wet when you need to use it! I'm going in August (rainy!) with my DD and her cousin and if I rent a double I'll try to use a poncho or two to keep things dry.

but when we leave it out when we are on a ride or attraction we cover it with a cheap plastic tablecloth (dollarstore kind) that I have folded under the stroller in the pocket of our ponchos.. I just throw it over it and it keeps it dry. It also makes it easy for us to find when we come out if the stroller has been moved. We found this keeps everything dry even the stuff underneath that didnt stay dry with the rain shield.

Wow! Great idea . If I end up renting a double think there is a trip to the Dollar Store in my future .

BYW, how do the kids stay dry in the stroller when it's raining and you're not inside an attraction? Do they just sit in the stroller with their ponchos on or do cover the stroller with something else?

I use an extra rain poncho to cover my stroller--one of the cheapy ones from big lots-Then we have it to turn inside out if we need to sit on it to watch a parade after the rain or have it if someones Mickey poncho rips!
