Summer Trip - What Would You Do?

I should also add to this thread that this is the second time we've done a stay of this length. The original one was pre-DVC for us. We did 3 nights at Yacht Club and then moved to CBR. Transportation was so bad there that a polite email to WDW resulted in a move to AKL for the last 6 days. We can survive in a studio room.

so now it becomes about will you be at Epcot most or the other parks, and if you can get a 1 bed at BWV over the summer, I'd grab that , esp if it's the last part of trip. but that's my personnel preference. we love boardwalk, many people, esp with kids, do not. also, if you split stay, beware of suitcase issue. Take a small one with essentials over to new park yourself, trust me, you'll be glad you did. Generally speaking, it will take 12-24 hrs to get your stuff moved, and several phone calls, call bell station, not front desk and keep those numbers with you. Remember, summers are typically packed, that slows everything down a bit.

So, have you looked at BWV/BCV availability for your dates? You could waitlist - if you book your Poly stay as one reservation for the dates you want in BW area and a separate reservation for the dates you want at Poly, you can set up the waitlist to replace those specific Poly nights with the BW area nights (you can set up 2 waitlists, so you could WL both BWV and BCV) and keep the other Poly nights. If your Poly reservation is just one reservation for all 16 nights, you'd need to stalk the RAT and book the BW area that came available and then modify the Poly reservation to match. I have no idea what availability looks like this summer - normally it's not too difficult to book DVC in June-July, but due to COVID everything is different this year.

Right now availability for studios is very limited. But, that is a good idea about trying to split it (although we could always lose it if we attempt a split). Thank you.
If you don’t have enough points to book a “backup“ reservation while dropping/modifying, maybe you can call MS and ask them to split your Poly reservation in 2, and then WL one part or the other. I would definitely take this opportunity to try a different resort.

But, I love split stays and for 16 days, I’d for sure do that. After 3 nights in one resort I am ready for a new one. Heck, I am doing a split stay in 8 days with 2 at VGF and 1 at RIV!
Haha. We are doing a 3 resorts in 10 days split next week! Thanks to Covid we are trying BCV and AKV-Value. With 2 kids. We usually do anywhere between a 3+7 to 5+5 split, if we take a full week plus weekends on either end.

Note: BWV 1 BR only has 4 sleeping surfaces. You must provide your own bed, towels and bedding for a 5th person.

Based on feedback here we received in this thread we decided to follow the consensus advice.....
  • 6 Nights at a Poly studio
  • 4 Nights at an OKW studio
  • 6 Nights at BWV (5 in a 1 BR and the last night in a studio)
Well, this sounds cool and I am jealous! We don't do split stays as our longest trip has only been 6 nights. It'd feel too transient to me to move every few days, but this sounds like a great plan! We have stayed at BWV (studio) for 5 nights (me, DH, DD21 on that trip) and the space was fine. We loved the Boardwalk Inn! Actually, DH and I are off to SSR for 5 nights in April- I'll be there in three weeks! Have a wonderful trip!
