What tips do you have for going in the summer heat? It will be just DH and I during the last two weeks of June. (We are both teachers) I'm used to hot weather, but not humid weather. Any tips on what to bring, wear, or do to not get overheated would be wonderful. At DLR we normally go back to the room for an afternoon nap so I expect we would do that at WDW too.

Drink lots of water. We took froggy chilly pads with us in ziplock bags and they helped a lot. Keep them refrigerated overnight and take them out and good to go. Take frequent breaks and start early. Enjoy :)

Living here, I answer questions like this all the time and I can not stress these things enough. Everyone thinks they are "use to hot weather" until they get here.
June is hot. I mean like 2 degrees cooler than walking on the sun hot. Early June is tough because our afternoon T-storms haven't quite kicked in yet so it stays hot and humid all day/night. By the last two weeks of June, the T-storms should be well into play. So plan on an afternoon T-storm between 2-5 everyday for about 20-30 min. Some people bring ponchos.

So first tip: DRINK WATER! like twice of what you think you should.

Take a break in the afternoon. If you are staying close by or on property, if you can, take a break from the parks in the afternoon from like 2-6. Go back in the evening when it cools down.

Use sunscreen and lip balm. Don't forget to reapply it cause you will sweat it all off.

Do 2 outside things and then an inside thing. Plan shows and inside longer attractions so that you get a break from the heat.

Oh, and DRINK WATER. ;) and don't forget to eat. Some people don't eat enough when they are hot which can be just as bad as not drinking enough.

If you can as well, bring something to wipe your face/arms down with. It will help keep you some what dry and cool you off a bit.

Looks like we will be there at the same time according to your ticker! I just added the chilly pads to my amazon wish list for Christmas.

Great tips! Sounds like the afternoon naps will be a good idea to help with the heat and the rain. We are bringing our filtered water bottles which we tested at DLR and we liked. But you're right, I don't eat much when I'm hot. Except ice cream. ;)

Allow for pool days! Don't feel like you have to do a park every day. Sometimes, it's just nice to lay around in the sun (but drink lots of water)!!!:)

Yep, we did that. We are going for 13 nights and have two off park days.

You will NOT be sorry!! We are FL residents but this was the first year that we've heard of/used Frogg Togs - OMG! They are now a staple item, always stored in water in the fridge & we use them for every single outside event - sports, parks, biking, mowing the lawn, gardening, etc. :thumbsup2

except for one July trip that coincided with a family beach vacation.

I pack at least two changes of clothing per day. As mentioned above, taking a midday break is beneficial. Heading back to the park after a swim or nap and a shower with fresh clothes makes the evening more pleasant.

This summer we added Universal to our itinerary and cut off a couple of days from WDW. To add time, we went to the parks on our arrival day. We entered the MK about 3:00 PM and it was packed. Pirates was a 25-30 minute wait. After about six the park was still busy but wait times for the non mountain rides were much shorter. We even rode Pirates with one other family. No one else was in line.

Good idea about changing clothes mid day. I guess we should plan on doing laundry on one of our off park days.

Actually we were there last June and it was hot but manageable. Taking breaks is key. :)

Even walking on shady side of street rather in the hot sun helps. Cutting thru gift shops unless kids stop an beg for stuff then it not worth it.

Remember water is FREE all restaurants has to give you free water if you ask I will admit not all the water in Disney tastes the same.
I ask for cup of ice suck on the ice I get my water an it tastes much better than most of Disney water.

Frequent short breaks....go inside restaurants drink water eat ice an cool down an do nothing.

Pack a tube of monistat soothing gel for chafing it's colorless odorless an great foe both sexes anywhere you might chaf. Also great on feet to prevent blisters just do not use on soles of feet if wearing sandels you will be swimming in them.

in addition:
- freeze water bottles at night so they stay cold longer
- carry a poncho or the like - the AC is super cold inside when it is super hot outside. bitterly cold & wet isn't fun either
- if you have any breathing difficulties (asthma, etc), the humidity will exacerbate them. carry your meds (especially emergency inhalers), and get into a cool place where you can sit down, if needed (GS, baby care, etc...)
- many carry the little battery-operated fans (some work with water, but that adds weight)
- starting with the morning, eat light. do any large meals - and alcohol - in the evening

enjoy :)

Love all these summer tips! I also appreciate hearing that you can have a great time during the summer. People think we are crazy for going to Florida in the summer! :confused3

I love love love wearing wicking sundresses with built in bras and a pair of compression shorts underneath when it is hot and humid.

It is modest when I'm getting on the rides, and I don't have a chafing issue with my legs.

I wear my keens (shoes) on days when we have water rides and alternate with my cushiony tennies for the days with no water rides.

We went to multiple signatures and black platform sparkly flip flops, a sparkly top, and capris were a dressy, yet comfy look.

We had the best trip and I'm looking forward to my next one.

If you are onsite take advantage of the EMH. The parks will be cooler in the mornings and the evening EMH are really dead and you can get a lot done and you won't be in the boiling sun that much. We did EMH had MK when they were open to 2 in the morning. We got a lot accomplished and the park was so dead it was creepy.

Good idea about changing clothes mid day. I guess we should plan on doing laundry on one of our off park days.

The good thing about doing laundry is that the laundry rooms are by the pools. So you can relax at the pool while doing laundry.

You will have a blast. In addition to your water bottles if you have some Gatorade/powerade type stuff that is a good alternative.

No need to waste a down day doing laundry. As a previous poster said you can get laundry done and pool time at the same time.

In the summer it is not unusual for us to leave by 1 and not come back until 6 or 7 and stay though extra magic hours.

Have yet to do a summer in Florida but have done asphalt/road crew in the summer. Nothing like standing in one spot flagging traffic all day.

My biggest tip would be to create your own shade. Wear a hat a big wide brim hat. Keep the sun off your face and neck.

And if it has not been said enough drink water lots and lots of it. You know you are well hydrated if you are frequently in the bathroom and its clear.

I recommend bringing 2 pairs of tennis shoes. Nothing is worse that getting rained on and only having one pair of wet tennis shoes

We have been twice in August and we drink tons of water and always go back to the resort for a break around noon. We swim or take a nap and then head back to the parks around 5.
