Summer ROCKS and so do the Super Goofs!

Hi Goofs!

Cecelia, I guess I missed it, but how is the Free trip costing so much? I hope you have a good time anyways. I haven't been to Europe since 2002.

Liz, impressive to get out on the bike in that weather. I went out with DBF on Sunday for a ride. I realized that I hate bike riding (at least until I get a new bike or get the gears on mine to shift properly). No one ever taught me how to shift a 10-speed. Mine has is a 15 speed (I think), but only 5 work!

As for me:

I finally made it to my karate class for the first time since... oh, maybe September. I went when one specific instructor was there. The first one I ever worked out with. It was great. My quads were sore before we were done with the warm up. I'm going to stretch a little bit more before bed to help wth that.

I got lucky that they set me up with a Master instructor when I was working on my forms. I had to be walked through the forms, but I started with my highest form and worked my way down. I stayed after to practice them a few more times. I think I will be back up to speed quickly as long as I can make it to at least one class per week. Keep you fingers crossed for me!

I also started my pre-trip report for August! See the link in my siggie!

80 degrees, 80% humidity at 0500.

Got in 8 miles in 1:24.

Took in 2 pounds of water, net loss of 4 pounds...I lost 6 pounds through my skin.

yuck.

Have a great day goofs!

The main part of the trip, my MIL is paying for. She and my FIL LOVE to dress up for dinner and expect us to do the same. So out of respect, I have to buy my kids at least 5 very nice outfits to wear to dinners. My son was easy and i caught some great sales. My daughters on the other hand are another story. Lucky for me, I hit the stores after prom sales and managed to get some super deals, however, then they had to have shoes and new bras etc etc.

Yes, I will be eating 9 or so very nice dinners so I should just think of that and not the expenses but its tough when the expenses keeping piling up.

I used to live in Germany and DH lived in Italy so we are excited about taking our kids on a "sampler" tour of the places we once lived.

Whoa! Be careful!!! I woke up with a splitting headache this morning. I am certain it is mostly dehydration because its getting harder and harder to drink enough water to make up for what I lose exercising.

I'm trying to figure out this heat/hydration balance. Read about people losing 4-5 lbs after a run or bike yet I come in and have lost maybe a pound after guzzling down water/electrolytes. This mean I am hydrating correctly? Over hydrating?

Last summer was not this hot (especially not this early) so trying to work it all out. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The problem is that I can't carry near enough water to replace that which I lose during exercise since I'm a big fella...so I feel horrible until I take in enough fluids after the run.

Hello Goofs, back from vacation and trying to get out of slug mode. We did alot of walking while in NYC but I never made it to the hotel gym. Posted lots of pictures on facebook if you are on there. I hope to get motivated soon and get back into the swing of things.

Trying to catch up on all the posts so...congrats to everyone on your 5K's, 10K's, 15K's and tri's. Angie, congrats to your son and I hope things get better with losing your friend and your job search. Lisa, congrats on your new job! Weather in NYC was fab, mid 70's during the day and overcast with only one day of non stop rain. Landed home in Orlando and it was 91 at 8pm.

Have a great rest of the week all...

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!!

Look, it's me, seriously. I am still alive!!

I hope that everyone is doing well. I actually have more time to surf in my new job when someone isn't looking over my shoulder, i.e., at home of course. It has been a VERY long week for me and I am totally exhausted from the brain deluge that I have gotten. It is totally different than my transcription job and it also shows me what a bunch of #*@! I work with!! No wonder the leads were always wound for sound. Oh wait, I was before...now what am I going to do??? :lmao::lmao:

I am running sporadically. Trying to at least get out and walk on my lunch half hour. Biking a little too. My miles have hit an all time low but hopefully after my schedule straightens out I will be back to my old self. I definitely have some base to build back up. My 5K time is still pretty consistently under 29 minutes which makes me happy. I guess all is not lost yet!

Have a great Friday and a super weekend everyone. DD14 has her first softball tourney this weekend with the big girls...:scared: I can't wait!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

TGIF! I am wrapping up work early (and trying to update my own workout log.....where have I been?)

Starting my 2 week vacation today. Going back to MA to visit family and spending three days in Camden, Maine. (I'll wave your way, Lisa!) Don't look forward to the drive, especially since we have to take the long way through Ohio--didn't get son's passport renewed in time.

Went for a quick run today and nothing but the dog walk tomorrow. Already have "wicked" butterflies in my stomach for SUnday. See, this is why I never sign up for races til the last minute. If I'm not signed up, I can't get so nervous!

Maura

Happy Sunday everyone!!

I have been at a softball tourney since Friday afternoon (off and on) and so far DD14s team is undefeated. She has been catching and playing third base (except for the mercy rule game when they stuck her in center field) and has been the lead off batter. She is doing well and the team is undefeated so far. Most precious moment as of today is my DD hustling to beat a bunt to first, team over throwing first base, DD rounding first, seeing the missed throw and tripping over her feet, landing face first, scrambling back to her feet and having to dive back to first base in order to not be tagged out. Yep, that's my girl...:sad2::rolleyes1 Actually that is her dad's DNA not mine. Mine is the speed. Yeah, I'm sticking to that story.

Today is a game at 8:30 and if they win, straight to the championship game at noon. I promised Liz that I would bring my camera so maybe I can get the prom pics and the softball pics posted...yeah, I wouldn't believe me either if I were you. :lmao::lmao:

I hope everyone has a great weekend going into the 4th holiday week. Maura, you need to let me know when you are coming to Maine so we can hook up somewhere. Of course, I scheduled myself to work on the 4th so that is out...duh...There is an LL Bean 10K on the 4th if you need a race...:teeth:

Have a good one Goofs and I will try really hard to start the July thread on Tuesday but if no one sees it by Wednesday, please feel free to start some sparks flying in July!!

Hey Goofs!! hehe

Just Warrior Tracy (the keeper of teams miles and times) stopping by:

Popping in with a end of the month reminder....

1. Please start a new thread for next month.
2. On the first post of the new month, place your teams total miles and times for your team.
3. Post on that thread if the totals include everyone from your team or if you are missing some. I will keep checking that first post until you say you have pretty much everyones numbers.

Thanks so much!!

Then when I have every teams numbers I will update the teams totals thread!!

Thanks in advance for everyones help with this!!

WISHers ROCK!!!

Hey Goofs! Just a quick drive by for me! Got in an OK 2 miler this morning. It is very hot here and I just wasn't ready for that. But I finished the mileage and that is what matters! I started a Higdon 15k plan to build up my mileage until September. Next week will be week 2!

I will try to update the spreadsheet later on today. I have been playing lots of hockey even though I haven't done too much running, but that will change now that I am on this program!

Keep up the good work Goofs!

Quick "walk-by" (race recovery mode)....

I finished my first tri today (jury still out on whether there'll be a second!). Will post details later.

Until I got home and saw posted results, I had thought I won my age group! (50-54) and was announced as such. But just checked online and saw that someone else is now showing as winner. I took 3rd in swim (lots of slow pokes like me, thank god!), 4th on bike, 2nd on run!.Got a little necklace/medal out of it---which went to 1st and 2nd place people, so no harm/no foul. Will post report and picture later.

Maura

Congrats Maura!!!!

Lisa - YAY to DD!!!!

Hello Goofs!!

We did the Metlife Duathlon this morning - relay like last year. Patrick runs, I bike then he runs again. Took 3 min off our time from last year and I would've taken off even more time except the wind kept picking up and head a 20mph head wind during an uphill leg. But hey, it was fun except for the fact the porta potties they ordered never arrived. Yep, 500 people plus spectators and nada. Had to use the one in the train station (there is 1 mens, 1 womens) or run over to the fire station to use theirs (1 womens, 3-4 mens). Other than that, it was a very well run event.

I'll update the spreadsheet tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Hi goofs! DBF got me up early this morning, well early for me since I didn't go to bed until 2:30. He took me and his brother (12) for a hike at Valley Green in Philly. It was a good time. We went down one side of the creek and back up the other. His brother started saying he was tired and sitting down whenever we would stop. It was a little surprising since me and DBF aren't exactly in the best shape. I guess that a skinny kid who sits around playing video games all day is in no better shape than two 30-somethings who are over weight but try to exercise regularly.

Congrats Maura and Liz!

The mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer:stitch:

Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.

This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.

A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?

I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Popping in. Just did my last run for the month and posted it. It was a BRUTAL run. I have all kinds of injuries both new and old popping up. I just want to make it thru the Peachtree on Saturday and be done with it. I don't recall ever being so worried about a race. :scared:

Hope the rest of the Goofs are doing well. Here's to a new week! :wizard:

Good morning Goofs!

Nice job Maura and Liz!!

Shan - don't get stressed out. Lots of times you get these phantom aches and pains before a race and they really aren't anything. Just be sure you are eating right and drinking oodles of water.

I am really having trouble staying hydrated this summer. Yesterday, after my 14 mile run, I spent all day feeling thirsty even when I was chugging water. I drank a second powerade hoping that would help but it only made it worse. I tried unsweet tea too and while that was refreshing, it didn't help with the thirst. I don't know what is going on.

Take care all!
Cecilia

Thanks Cecilia.

DH is having the same problems as you. He did a race yesterday and was a mess after. It is just so hot... At least this week the highs are supposed to be in the low 90s instead of high.

I looked all over for you at Patrick, but couldn't find you guys...were you wearing WISH stuff?

I ran both runs VERY fast (for me), but as you said the (in your face all the time) headwind was brutal. I finished in about an 1:11...SEVEN minutes slower than last year, but I did ride 80 miles in Madison the day before, so I'm going to chalk up most of the time loss to that.

That said, it was a fun event (and the first one I ever did back when I started this journey), so I like to keep doing it.

Thats all I have time for right now...I was up at 0300 and on a flight at 0500 yesterday, home at 2100 and into bed...up now to work out, then to dig out from all the wonderful, positive emails I received while I was gone.

I swear it takes me 2 days for every 1 that I am gone to catch up!

Mike
