Wife actually wanted to go to WDW one more time in August. I'm kinda Disney'd out quite honestly as that would be our fourth trip in one year! We had bonus points we had to use up with our recent purchase of DVC so that's why we've been three times, but wife wanted to squeeze in one more trip so we could use our WDW annual passes before they expire at the end of August.

I love Florida and WDW, but just think it'd be too much. Airfare is definitely more expensive than last year too. We flew down last August for a family of 4 for $620! This year, its looking like $1050ish.

So anyhoo, I'm thinking just a simple roadtrip sometime in August. Kids are 3 and 5. I'm not a great long distance driver and I just don't like the kids to sit too long during the waking hours. I think I can squeeze in a 5 to 6 hour drive beginning at 9pm'ish and the kids will be asleep in the car. We would stay over at a motel and then continue for another 2 or 3 hours during the day to our destination.

Give my above driving disability :) where can we go? We're not the outdoorsy type, so kinda rules out Northern camping/cottage kinda stuff.

Any ideas?

We go to the New England area every summer or fall. I've been taking my daughter (almost 6) since she's been a baby. Lots to do in Boston, Cape Cod, Maine, Newport, Mystic, etc. I live just outside of Windsor and it takes me about 11 hours, crossing at Niagara Falls so I would think you would be a few hours closer?

We like:

Kingston
Ottawa
Montreal
Niagara Falls
Kitchener/Guelph/Elora/Fergus Areas
Ohio ~ Cedar Point is 5 hours drive from Mississauga ~ stay at the Kalahari Resort! It's AWESOME!

Lots of family stuff to do! Sandra

Niagara Falls
Darien Lake
Hershey Pa
Cape Cod
Ottawa
Grove City Pa / Erie (If you like shopping)
Montreal
Quebec City

Cape Cod is great...I've been going there since I was a very small child. They have a little bit of everything there.

I just came back from Ottawa and it was fantastic. I wish i had more time there. They have so many things to do. They have tons of museums, RCMP stables, haunted city walks, beautiful parks, the Byward market and the list goes on. The hotel choices there are endless.

I've heard great things about Virginia Beach.

In the Erie, PA area they have an enormous indoor waterpark resort. Friends of mine went and they booked a second trip before they left. There is also lots of shopping there (Grove City is another 40 min. away) but I wouldn't go there just to shop.

Just another thought.....Sherkston Shores...over in the Fort Erie, ON area.

We stayed at the Lord Elgin in Ottawa last summer and our 8 year old daughter had a great time. We parked the car when we arrived and basically walked everywhere.

My kids are also 3 and 5 and they love Sesame Place in PA. Really fun place - and the kids are the perfect age to enjoy the park.

When we went, we only had a short time to spend, but I was told to also check out these places that are in the same general vicinity:

Peddler's Village and Giggleberry Fair- http://peddlersvillage.com/overview/overview.htm

Hershey Park - http://www.hersheypark.com/index.php

We did make it to King of Prussia Mall which is a huge mall not far from Sesame Place (if your wife likes to shop).

I think there is LOTS to do in this area. And you are very close to Philly if you want to include a visit there.

Good luck with your plans! Edited to add: Sesame Place is about a 7 hour drive from where I live in Belleville.

You can always try Atlantic Canada. It's quite a different thing from most other provinces... Of course I'm from Charlottetown, so maybe I'm biased! :goodvibes
