Couples (used) to go out in row boats when courting - big thing in my parents era - so it's consider romatic - the man rows the boat and the woman sits back and admires him doing it Supposedly ...

Me and OH would be in fits (of laughter) as I'm sure we'd be going round in circles if he rowed

One of my happiest days at DLP was going round Lake Disney with my two oldest boys, it's a great day out!
