63 degrees, nice and cool today. Might get up to 65, but our Channel 6 meteorologist doubts it. It's overcast and chilly, my favorite. I'm sitting here in my flannel jammies with a hot mug of coffee enjoying the day.
October 29, 2011. Almost 8 years ago. The only measurable October snow in my memory. We got about four inches of wet sloppy snow, but I know the Philly area and north got much more. Back around 1980 there was a dusting of snow on the ground when I woke up about October 15, but it quickly disappeared.
Exactly a year later, October 29, 2012 was Superstorm Sandy.
Wow, was that really 2011? Didn't think it was that long ago. We were living about 15 miles south of Allentown, so we were in the far NW suburbs of Philly. I don't remember exactly how much snow we got, but it was something like 8-10". It brought power lines and trees down EVERYWHERE in my area. We had to leave home that night, and it was a scary adventure. Roads snow covered and trees fallen across them everywhere. We stayed in a hotel for 2 nights, then went back home. Our house was on a well and septic system, so we had nothing. We went to the YMCA to shower, drove to Wal-Mart for bathroom breaks, cooked everything on the grill outside. The kids, who were pretty young at the time, used glow sticks as night lights. I had a small gas generator, but it wasn't enough to power much, just a few drop lights. It was kinda fun in a "camping" sort of way, but we were quite happy when the power came back on. Living like that for 4 days was getting old.
