I mean - the topic basically says it all, but I'll offer a bit more.

The cookies at Summer House on the Lake are better than any "cookie" at Gideon's, there I said it. First off - Gideon's doesn't actually serve cookies - they are best could be described as candy bars, or candy lumps? But what they are selling aren't cookies. The ratio of cookie batter to the "stuff" of whatever is in your choice at Gideon's is, well, there isn't a lot of cookie dough in there. Now - you might still like em - but they aren't really cookies. Anymore than a snickers is "peanuts" or a poptart is a "fruit pastry". Summer House on the Lake though - those are fricken cookies, and they are DAMN GOOD cookies. The double chocolate cloud is, well its a chocolate cloud, but its a COOKIE. The salted chocolate chip manages to be crispy and salty on the outside, and chewy and sweet all through the inside. The M&M has a ton of M&Ms in it, but its still clearly a cookie, and far more cookie than M&M's so you can TASTE cookie.

This is my hot take - we loved Summer House on the Lake.

I know I am on a mission to try their Almond Croissant - might have to try a cookie also :)

Their almond croissants are amazing. Does anyone know if they sell them during non brunch hours?

I agree 100%

I cannot wait to finally try them in October. We are going for dinner and will be hitting up the cookie bar on our way out. That rice crispy choc chip cookie is calling my name!

I've had both, and love both. That being said, they're two different things. Summer House cookies are more of a traditional cookie, whereas Gideon's are unique and different. Both are delicious!!! :)

And I was totally disappointed with the Summer House cookie I ordered when I was there in April, LOL, it was a huge disappointment. And I normally love lemon cookies!

I will stick with Gideon's, thanks!
Totally agree. We got five different Summer House cookies and didn’t think much of any of them. Back to Gideon’s for us!

I feel so validated reading this. I couldn't agree with you more on your assessment of Gideons. They're not bad but they're just too much for me. I will have to add summer house to my list now to try tye cookies!

I completely agree. Gideons is a novelty and they are tasty but after our first visit we've never gone back. It's just not worth the hassle, and I agree there is just too much "stuff" in them. I can't eat more than a bite or two at any given time as they are just too rich and sweet for my taste. We brought them home from our trip and kept them in the fridge for awhile. It took so long to eat them we forgot about them and I ended up throwing a good bit away.

Now, Summer House cookies were right up my ally. We bought a variety to split amongst our group and loved them all. Add in the fact you can just walk up to the cookie bar and get them with no VQ nonsense or 30 minute wait in line and they are the clear winner for me.

Big fan of the frosted cookies at summer house. To me, cookies and cake are just vehicles for frosting 😁 I had a field day finding my favorites & can't wait to go back

I love how much "stuff" is in a Gideon's cookie. That said, I would never eat a whole one in one sitting. My goodness, they are like a pound! They keep really well, so I just nibble on it here and there until it is gone. That works for me. I haven't tried the Summer House cookies yet, but I would like to.

I like both Summer House AND Gideons! There. I said it.

Coffee Cake and Pistachio are my favorite Gideon's cookies. I wanted to like the lemon cookie at Summer House, but the flavor was too "artificial" for my taste. The orange cookie is similar, but I liked it better. My absolute favorite dessert at Summer House is not a cookie, but the Blondie!!!!!:banana::banana::worship::worship::worship::love::love::love:

I also like both Disney AND Universal! :duck:

I'm a HUGE fan of Summerhouse, and while I do think their cookies are better than the unbaked lobs of dough Gideon's serve, they still pale in comparison to those almond croissants, served warm. Absolute heaven!

Definitely do - it was our first time and ... just dang. Incredible COOKIES - which is what I was looking for. Gideons is its own thing, but cookies they are not :)
