Arthur and I are lookin to splurge a bit more and go to Hershey Park tomorrow...we are trying to weigh every factor though to see if it would be more beneficial to go during the weekend or the week...we can get discount tickets from Giant to save about 24 dollars total on admissions, but they are only for weekday tickets. May sound like a good deal, but we arent on salary and will lose about 60 bucks or so by taking the day off to go...on the other hand, if we go on the weekend, it costs a bit more at first, but we can still work during the week...the final problem, and question for you all is this....are the CROWDS on the weekend HORRIBLE?! Are we going to have to wait FOREVER to get on one ride, and by the end of the day, we only got to see half the park? Would it be better to invest the missed work day to go the park during the weekday to avoid crowds, or would the park still be crowded...any opinions?

The weekends at Hershey are horrible, the lines are usually very long and it is hot in most of the area's. But if you are losing your pay during the week I would suggest getting there when it opens in the am and be warned that as the day goes on it will get busy. It is a nice park and we like to go, but we generally try to go in the middle of the week

We're in the middle of a heatwave here (I live about 75 minutes away). I wouldn't even attempt it tomorrow. It's not supposed to cool down until Monday night/Tuesday. :(

They were horrible on July 6th....we got there early..and there were still waits, 40 minutes for Comet, and this was at 10 AM!

1 1/2 wait for Roller Soaker, and Big Bear line was out of the que area as well.

45 minute wait for the circular rapids water ride as well.

We will never ever go on a weekend again, we are going back but on a weekday...

oh, you live so close!! I am in state college...im sure you know where that is...and its either go do something fun, or be stuck inside with the AC..im willing to battle the heat...so maybe not so many people will go then if they think its too hot...hahahhaha

You will have lots of lines... really you will. We got there early and had a problem even getting in... the lines were horrible even at 10 am....

If you can do it any other day, save yourselves a hassle and go then.. (BTW, we are about one hour 45 minutes away from there!)

Weekends are a nightmare. I would definately go on a weekday if at all possible. This is the current weather and it is supposed to be more of the same tomorrow. There are many other things to do to cool off on blistering days. How about a nice innertube float down a nearby river? A visit to a waterfall. Trust me, Hershey on a hot weekend day will lead to an early meltdown. The park itself has a lot of hilly terraine and the lines will be long, long, long!

Well, I am about 20 minutes from Hershey and let me tell you it is HOT!!! We hit a high yesterday of 100! Tomorrow is supposed to be 94, I think.
We do Hershey on Sundays a lot and by afternoon the crowds start to thin a little, sometimes. Everybody seems to head back home from the weekend.
We try to arrive about 1/2 hour before the park opens. When they open the gates head to the back of the park first or go to Midway America. Midway America is the newest section of the park and there is NO shade.
Have a FUN day!

My daughter and her family left around 3 in their camper heading for Hershey Park. Hope it cools off for them. They will be there for the week.

I went on 7/18 (Thursday) and crowds picked up between 12 pm to 4 pm. I started in the back of the park and did Lightning Racer about 4 times, Wildcat once, and Wild Mouse once with only a few minutes wait. Then I worked back and did the boomerang and mine ride (can't remember the names). The wait was 15 minutes for each ride. Then I went to the front. Superdooperlooper, Great Bear, and the Comet had at least a 30-45 minute wait. I think the Great Bear looked like 1 hour once! I did some shows and after 4 pm, Great Bear had a 10 minute wait, Comet had a 10-15 minute wait, and Superdooperlooper was pretty much a walk-on.

I don't know what the park is like on weekends, but I did Dorney Park on a Saturday. I was on Talon at 10:15 and finished Lazer by noon. At noon, Talon had a 30 minute wait and the Hercules line looked long! Sunday was much better. Even at 1 pm, Talon had a 10-15 minute wait and the rest of the rides had less than a 5 minute wait.

So the rule of thumb for theme parks holds here: never go on a Saturday. Saturdays generally get packed. If you do end up going on a Saturday, arrive right at opening and stay one step ahead of the crowds.

I was just looking into going to Hereshy for a Saturday...in August

From what you guys just posted it probably isn't the best plan...I guess I'll re think the date thing

Also, is Hershey a park for 1 day or more????

You can spend 2 days at Hersheypark easily. I did it in 1 day, but I pretty much rode the coasters. If you want to do most of the flat rides and shows, you really need 2 days.

We are going for two days as well Kim... we only got part of it done... when we went on a Saturday.
