Summer/Christmas Crisis

Dh & I are thinking about the possibility of rescheduling our planned August visit until Nov.

I have really mixed feelings:confused3 , I HATE to pass up on the free dining deal but we've got some last minute wrinkles we're trying to see if we can iron out.

If we switch, we're thinking about the week after Thanksgiving. I've got a couple questions..

1) If we arrived at Disney the day after thanksgiving (we'll be in the area about 4-7 days prior but spending thanksgiving with family and staying at a condo) will the Christmas decorations be up?

2) How are the crowd levels at this time?

3) Are there typically any deals/packages/discounts at this time of the year?

4) Any special events? Is it too early for the MVSCP?

Thanks everyone!

I visited last year during Thanksgiving and left the Tuesday after. The week after Thanksgiving is a perfect time to visit. The weather is nice, the Christmas decorations are up and the Xmas party is in full swing. The crowds are also low. I walked onto every ride at MK the Monday after Thanksgiving. It was wonderful.

I'm really not sure how the prices compare because I rented DVC points for that visit. I added the dining plan, which was wonderful.

I love August, but if I didn't have kids in school I would go every year after Thanksgiving.

We have been twice the week after Thanksgiving--Thursday to Sunday. The crowds were light and the decorations are beautiful. Both years we went to MVMCP and the CP, and the Osborne lights. Loved looking at the decorations in the other resorts--GF,YC/BC, BW.
At that time (2001-2002) this was "value" season. "Holiday" season doesn't start until mid-December, so the rates were good.
My own kids are too old to pull out of school now, but it's a great time to go!

Don't know how long you plan to stay but Friday and Sat after Thanksgiving will be mobbed, crowds will drop way down on Sunday and should be fairly low all the next week.

If you are just planning on the weekend after Thanksgiving I would say forget it....the parks and hotels will be at capacity. Doubt if any discounts will be available that weekend at all.

If you are planning to stay the next week it should be great and discounts should be readily available...although you might have to split your reservation to take advantage of them, since they will probably be blacked out until Sunday or Monday following Thanksgiving.

The dates I'm looking at are November 25th-Dec 2nd. It's actually the Sunday after thanksgiving.:cutie:

I was there the Sunday after Thanksgiving to the following Saturday just this past year. It was wonderful. The crowds were low. The temperature was perfect and all the holiday decorations were up. We went to MVMCP, Candlelight Processional and Osbourne Lights. We went to ALL the Deluxe Resorts to check out their decorations and they were all beautiful. I would go again that same week if I could. I highly recommend it.

Thanks you guys! :thumbsup2 I'm feeling better already! The only thing I'm unsure about is having to make dd miss a week of school./ I've never had to do anything like that before.
The actually Thanksgiving holiday will be spent about 45 minutes away with family.

I've taken my kids out of school every year for a family vacation. They are now entering 7th and 9th grade. I have no regrets. Generally, the vacations were for skiing, but last year it was for Disney. Believe me - they survive. However, I will not be doing it again now the my oldest is in high school. He needs every second there!!!!!
