Summer budget panic!

It is every bit the taxpayer's business on how their money is being used.

IF posters are not using government funded programs to supplement their incomes, then absolutely it is nobody's business how they use their money.

BUT...by choosing to use government funds, they are also choosing to be accountable to the taxpayers on how those funds are used.

Please direct all these comments then at the politicians that set up the programs. Not the people who take advantage of an available goverment program that they qualify for. Are you as diligent with other government wasteful spending. Personally I would rather see this cash go to someone that is skrimping and saving and loving their families than to killing people in foreign countries and giving tax breaks to the oil companmies.

loving your family does NOT mean taking them on expensive vacations! Those first few Disney trips in my signature? DAY TRIPS! No food...brought in sandwiches and whatever baby stuff we needed. Relatives in Florida let us sleep in their guest room while we spent four days in Florida and one at Disney.

RyJmom>> Thank you... I'm not a hero... just someone who really cares and LOVES their job! (though, I am counting down the days right now!)

I don't like what our government is doing in both areas. But, we are currently talking about people that take handouts that they don't need.

One of the posters that receives government help to feed her children owns DVC:( Doesn't that boggle you?

She also posted this a few weeks ago on a thread wondering if you were affected by our current economy::

DH and I both work in the education industry. Our jobs aren't going anywhere. It's the first time I've had a full time job outside of the house in YEARS (stay at home mom)..

So, we currently have a two income household.. we're doing great. :)

I am sure you ARE doing great. You don't have to worry about buying your children food during the school day:lmao:

Are you really going to build a new house?

I applied for a construction loan, and was handed our credit reports, complete with scores. :)

Of course, I was told we had to wait six months.. so the land will be in our name for a long enough time.. but.. hey, that's not the end of the world.

Or are you just messing with us on the day you admited that you need the government to help feed your children:headache:

I can't find the post about the SSI, but I'm confused as to how one can qualify for SSI for their disabled child (and then earn too much for the stimulus refund) since it's based on the parents income and resources? :confused3

Well, we did talk to the social security office to start getting set up for the adult benefits. After reviewing our paperwork, they told us we would have been eligible for benefits for our child.

Like I said, we never applied, but being told that we would have been eligible was straight from the Social Security Office.

I would love to see the money go to people who are scrimping and saving and really need it.

You are not scrimping and saving if you are buying DVC points.

Oh yeah- I am as dilligent about stuff like that. See everything has a trickle down effect. If you take the program because you are "entitled" to it but don't really need it you take away from someone who does really need it eventually when it all runs out. Look at the housing market as an example. People are in foreclosure all over. Why? Because they took out huge mortgages and couldn't pay them. Now they blame the mortgage companies for giving them the mortgage. These people did not make enough money to pay the bill but they felt they were "entitled" to it because they "deserve" to own a home. Now the mortgage companies are folding AND people are homeless and jobless. Bankrupts are up yet you will see people even on these boards who have filed and have a trip ticker in their siggie. It annoys the heck out of me. All of this trickles down making it harder and harder for those of us that are doing the right thing. I worry about how my children are going to be able to make it because they will have to pick up the slack of a country full of people who think they are "entitled". Sorry- you are not entitled to anything that you do not earn.

Forgive me for asking-- what on EARTH does that have to do with anything??? (Says the Irish-American girl)

Folks, the OP just doesn't get it. Many of us are aware of the entitlement mentality that has its grip on this country, and it's in fine evidence here.

For what it's worth, we don't qualify for aid. We're both teachers (in those notoriously high paying Catholic schools.) My husband supplements our income with photography; I supplement it with freelance writing. Our oldest turns 10 next week, so we're finally going on that once in a childhood trip to Disney. (At the Poly, thanks to our incredible luck with a PIN code.) My kids aren't "returning to the mouse"... this is their first trip there.

Breakfast in our house is cereal or toast; lunch is most often PB&J or hotdogs. It suits us and it's within our budget.

One of the wonderful things about this country is our compassion for those in need. One of the things that is so discouraging is that there are too many people who take advantage of that compassion. They'll justify it until they're blue in the face, and feel absolutely entitled to each and every benefit, and never really understand that their "entitlement" is someone else's hard earned money.

I sincerely hope that I'm teaching my kids that they're entitled to what they earn. There's no shame in accepting help that's needed; there's much more than shame in working the system to your advantage if the help isn't needed.

that was in response to the other poster mentioning her forms came in spanish (says this irish american married a Puerto Rican man, incase anyone implies that it was a racial comment0

My DS probably does qualify for free lunch at school, DH salary was low and he is now laid off - but I haven't even thought about applying for it. We can afford his lunch but if he was getting free lunch I wouldn't be planning a trip.

Who do you think pays for the lunch at the school - taxpayers money, your child may be getting it for free but we are all paying for it. It does make me mad when I hear that they can't give their kids lunch but can plan a trip. Kids will survive without vacations. Who wouldn't want to take their kids to WDW - but sometimes that just can't happen. I would love to go on vacation, but it is called priorities and right now that isn't at the top of the list.

I didn't got to Disney until I was 24 and we never really went on vacations and I turned out OK - and my DS hasn't been on vacation since 2005 and we don't have one planned this year either and he seems to be OK!

This thread has gone way off topic and does not appear to have any hope of returning answering the original question posed. Those wishing to continue the discourse should take it to PM since this thread is now closed.
