We have stayed at Bonnet Creek twice and loved it but am wondering about Summer Bay. Looks like they have new Villas and more on site activities. Anyone stay here recently can tell me how you liked it? Im a little afraid of the water toys they have though my kids would love it.. Alligators! yikes...Anyone been to both here and Bonnet Creek and can give me pros / cons? Haven't been there in 4 years.

We stayed at Summer Bay last year in a two bedroom and had friends stay at the same time in a one bedroom. One important distinction when looking at Summer Bay is that the Villas at Summer Bay are the older units. Summer Bay Resort is the newer part of the resort. We did not use the water park/toys area at all. The thought of playing in anything other than water that we can see to the very bottom of doesn't interest us and our kids. Our two bedroom unit was very nice. Our friends' one bedroom unit was very small and they were on top of each other (and there were only 3 of them, two adults and an 18 year old). One advantage Summer Bay has over WBC is that they have a free shuttle to the theme parks and our daughters used that a few early mornings and we met them at the parks later. We far prefer WBC, but it was not available anywhere near the same price point as Summer Bay, so we took a chance. I'm glad we did, because it is a nice resort, but I would not stay in anything smaller than a 2 bedroom and I would not stay in the Villas of Summer Bay. Just my $.02. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thank you for your feedback ! I’m looking at the newer area “the reserve” and definitely a 2 bedroom

Summer Bay is definitely a step down from Bonnet Creek- but is also a step down price wise as well. You have to pay extra for the water activities. We were there during Spring Break last year and really didn't see anybody using any of the water facilities. And I don't know that I would use a lake. We were in a 1 bedroom and it was fine (me and a 11 and 13 year old). The main things that I didn't like was distance from the park (there is a back way in, but its still going to take 15-20 minutes which is way more than WBC) and their smoking policy. At the main pool they can smoke all around the bar and those tables which are only 5-10 feet from the pool.
