Summer and Serendipity ~ July PTR ~ LINK TO TRIP REPORT!!!

Ew, the dreaded last day. MK sounds like a nice way to spend the morning, but so does one last swim in SAB. Or Epcot. Tough call.

I haven't been to Disney in the summer since I was 13 so have no idea what to wear. It was much easier wearing a tank top when you are 13. I don't wear them at home b/c I don't like subjecting people to my arm fat flapping around so I would probably still stick to t's.

I can't believe your school takes weeklong trips. Awesome!

Caitlin's last day of school is Monday. She is not even out of school yet and she is driving me crazy. "There's nothing to do!!" Looks like it will be a fun summer.

What to pack for WDW in July? Just a bathing suit so you can spend the enitre time in the pool :lmao:

Seriously, bring things that breathe...it is soooo hot down here right now and no rain..we have a heat index of 104 and it is unbearable to be outside. I suspect it will still be super hot next month but you may get more rain than they are getting now so bring clothes that dry out fast...not the heavy cotton stuff that will stick to you all day and if you are wearing socks pack a few extra to bring in the park with you, nothing worse than sloshing around in wet socks

Wear lots of tank tops and make sure you lather on the sunscreen. Do you have a hat? I usually wear a WDW ballcap to keep the sun off my face and head and that helps alot. Last month was a scorcher and I was glad for little sundresses and flip flops...even Todd ditched the polos (his favorite) and wore the Nke Air breatheable tops that I picked up from the outlet malls....made a huge difference for him and they were not that expensive.

1 more month!! How exciting! :cool1:

Morning EMH at the Magic Kingdom and the Plaza for lunch sounds like a fun ending to the trip, as does Epcot or more pool time. Lots of good choices there. :thumbsup2

Tanks will definitely be needed. It's been in the upper 90's there now and July could get harder yet. We went once over 4th of July and it was super, super hot.

:sad2: I'm sure it will be! Thanks for the the info.

There are too many choices. It makes it hard.. but fun to plan. ;)

All good problems to have, my friend! :goodvibes

Yeah...who knows with this one? :confused3 I think there are any number of variables that could possibly affect how this turns out!

I HATE showing my arms and would love it if bathing suits came with sleeves. :rotfl: I never wear tank tops for that reason, but I think I might have to just suck it up!

I can't believe your school takes weeklong trips. Awesome!

I chaperoned our trip to Atlanta last year and it was incredible!

Good luck with that! I still have the whole week in front of me. Its hard, that's for sure. Maybe a Dismeet? I'm sure Caitlin would love to hang out with a talkative four year old boy! :rotfl:

Thanks for the insider tips, Nicki. I actually went to Marshall's yesterday and found a couple more sun dresses, thankfully! And I'm a flip flop girl all the way! :thumbsup2

Just to interrupt all the glee... I ended up with the mother (father??) of all migraines on Sunday. Tried my usual Execrdin migraine routine, which usually does the trick and...nothing. No relief. Tried some more a little while later.... nothing. At that point, despite being at my mom's for a family dinner, I took a nap... still nothing.

I've gotten migraines, of varying severity, on and off all my life. They were at their worst when I was in highschool and I did the whole neurologist, eight million tests route and ended up with a prescription for for Fiorinal. Through college and my twenties, they became nearly non-existent, such that I haven't had a prescription for migraine meds in years. Thankfully!

So yesterday was bit odd, to say the least. I was also having severe pain in my left arm, which felt tingly, too. Around six, my husband and I decided to pay a visit to urgent care. I got a short of tramodol (??? something like that, it starts with a T) and was sent on my way. I waited. Waited some more. Went up to bed and tried to read for awhile. Still... nothing. Not even a bit of relief. Again, totally strange.

It was now almost eleven. And it was at this point, that I just made up my mind that I couldn't take it anymore and decided to drive myself to the ER. Long story short, I ended up with an IV of Dilaudid, some blood tests, and an EKG, as the whole left arm/tingly situation bothered them a bit. All told, I was in the hospital from around 11 until after 5 this morning, at which point, I came home and collapsed into bed.

And now I'm freaking out that I somehow didn't handle my professional responsibilities properly. Just as the Dilaudid was starting to take effect and it had become apparent that I was staying in the ER for quite some time, I texted my academic dean and explained that I was in the ER, was moreo or less OK, didn't have my principal's number, but wouldn't be in tomorrow. Explained where the material for my classes was, etc. Her instructions were to relax and stop texting and let her know when I was home and OK.

Fine... then upon waking up this afternoon, there are two missed calls and four or five texts. The calls were from my principal, the texts from other teachers covering for me about where my tests were. I have since spoken to my principal, who was very supportive, saying she was worried, the didn't know what was going on... Just some super quick background: we're a very small (25 adults, tops) charter school with a super tight staff. We don't have the kind of substitute set up that most public school districts do and it is expected that you just don't ever call in sick. Now, even though no one has said anything negative to me, I'm sitting here, worrying that I did something wrong... I am totally paranoid, right? :lmao:

Hope that all of you had a much more magical weekend! :goodvibes

Oh Tina...I can totally commiserate with you on the migraines and I am so sorry you had such a bad one. I never had one until I was 19 and my parents separated and I too did the neurology route and have had ever perscription out there. I have landed in the hospital a few times myself and it stinks!

As I get older them seem to lessen up a bit..I get many mini migraines a year and normal, like you, the Exedrin migraine fixes that but once or twice a year I get a whopper and then I am in deep trouble.

In fact I had one on Friday late morning and it went away by later afternoon only to come slamming back at 4am on Saturday!

I hope you are doing much better and that you are migraine free for a long time!

Awww...thanks, Nicki. I haven't gotten any in such a long time, it was weird. I'm sorry you get them, too. They suck and they seem to be one of those things in life that people who've never gotten them find difficult to understand.

Tina, I am so sorry to hear about the migraine and you ending up in the ER. I've never had one (just really, really bad headaches), but I have a very good friend who suffers from them and often misses at least a day of work a month. I hope you are feeling much better. And I wouldn't worry about work at all.

I'm really sorry to read about your migraines Tina. That sounds like a terrible day (and night and day?).

Hopefully your colleagues will understand why you were unable to respond to texts and I'm sure they got through the school day all right.

Thanks to both of you... I'm sure they will. Its very easy for the gears in my mind to start turning when I"m home trying to "relax." :lmao: Here's hoping I don't have another one for a long, long time! :thumbsup2

The only residual problem is that now its getting late and I'm wide awake from having slept most of the day. Ugh.

Oh Tina, that sounds just awful! I wouldn't feel bad at all about work, you did the best you could do under very extenuating circumstances.

I just hope it doesn't happen again. Any idea what triggered it?

yikes!

First of all, now that the migraine (and dilaudid) induced haze has lifted ever so slightly, I just wanted to point out the utter dearth of time separating us from the Caplan family's triumphant return to Disney! :lmao: I have the rest of this week at school, which is capped by our commencement cerermony on Thursday and a pool party on Friday. Our EOY staff party is Friday evening. Then on Saturday, I think we'll brave the crowds and go see Cars 2, the most hotly aniticpated movie of the year....at least around this house. :rotfl: Next week is looking pretty calm with all of Team Caplan at home, save for a visit to Max's new preschool, which we're saying is summer camp for now, as he'll only be going twice a week.

The following weekend is fourth of July and we have a reunion with my college friends and a get together for local fireworks. Then...its on to Max's Cars themed birthday extravaganza...which won't be all that extravagant, really, as we're headed down to Disney the following week!

Yep..just three and a half little weeks separating us from the Disney dream! :scared1:

Thus, I thought I would re-cap our dining plans, as they have changed somewhat considerably since I started this little pre-trippie....

Thanks, Cynthia. It wasn't pleasant. I'm going with stress. When I got them frequently as a teenager, I tended to get them just as a stressful situation was winding down...so right after SATS, for example, as opposed to during or before. We never found a food trigger or anything.

Given that this is my last week of school (and a beloved colleague is leaving at the end of the week), I'm thinking that's the cause.

Hopefully, I won't experience one like that again for a very long time.

OH.. that doesn't sound like a fun time. I am sorry. Do you feel better now? I hope you do!

As for work... I wouldn't worry. What could you have done? I mean... being in the ER... it kinda gives you a free pass of sort.

Sorry to hear about your migraine. Sounds like a lousy day. I would imagine everyone at work would understand, though.

Your trip is getting so close now! All those ADRs look great. :thumbsup2

Tina, so sorry to hear about your headache and visit to the ER! I do suffer from migranes myself and here is one word of warning .... I tend to get heat induced ones, so be careful out there in the July sun! Wear a hat (that's where I go wrong - I don't, but then hats give me headaches too! :rotfl2:) and get out of the sun ever so often!

Your trip is so awefully close! I cannot wait for you to go ....... and then time slow down for you dreadfully! ;)
Huge :thumbsup2 on your itinerary and ressies!

Sorry to hear about your awful day:hug: I hope you are feeling better and have a low stress week at school so that you can enjoy the rest of your time before Disney.

I can't believe you only have a few weeks to go. Those weeks will fly by with everything you have planned during that time.

Max must be so excited about seeing Cars 2. Cars 2 and a Cars b-ray party? What more could a 4 year old boy need?

Your final plans look great. A nice, relaxing trip with plenty of downtime sounds fantastic after the weekend you just had.
