Either we missed this attraction our last trip (March 2011) or it wasn't available but I think my ds would love to do this attraction. With tiering, our plan is to have a FP for Soaring and hit Test Track at rope drop.

When do the lines start to build at Sum of All Thrills? We will also be visiting Epcot in the later afternnoon/evenings - how are the lines at that time? What is the typical wait time?

Have done this a few times, usually on fall trips and never waited more than 15-20 minutes from entering the line to getting ON the simulator.

Due to the fact that it is a slow, not very interesting queue, I would head there right after TT for minimal waits. Depending on time of year, you may be able to experience it more than once (its different each time) before lines build.

We will be there during peak season. About how long does it take to design and test the ride? Can he ride it himself (not sure I want to try his crazy ride!).

:thumbsup2

We have done exactly this several times, and it works well. The line doesn't start to build much until between 10:00 and 10:30. CMs there tell me that the line can get long in the late morning (30+ minute wait) but it often dies down in mid- and late afternoon.

So I should do this attraction after TT instead of one of the other rides? Trying to figure out my rope drop morning strategy for Epcot. If lines for this tend to go down in the evening we would leave it until then as it sounds time-consuming.

I would say it takes about 20 minutes total for the pre-show, design, and ride.

I think that a child has to be 8 years old to ride alone on most rides, and probably the same thing is true for Sum of All Thrills. Maybe someone else will know for sure on this.

The Innoventions buildings close at 7 pm, so don't save it for the evening! :goodvibes

Innoventions (including Sum of All Thrills) frequently closes before park close. I think maybe 7PM? Most guide books and site recommend riding as early in the morning as possible. It is not open for AM EMH however.

Our son thought this was a great ride. We went last year during offseason and the line builds pretty quickly because of limited capacity. I'd hit it early if possible. Easywdw.com prob has more info on recommended time.

Thanks for the suggestions. My son is 13 (and nearly 5' 10"!) so he should be good to go on his own. Hopefully he doesn't make himself sick as he does occasionally experience motion sickness.
