I have a friend who is beginning to plan her first ever trip. She wants a suite with a separate sleeping area. So the question is - Which resorts have suites with a separate bedroom that will accomodate a family of 5? And what are each of these rooms called? Thanks!

Couple of questions. Does she need 2 bedrooms, or would 1 bedroom and a pull out in the living room suffice? Does she want privacy for her and her hubby, or would they share a room with some of the children?

There are family suites at the All-Star Music.

There's a mini-suite or something like that at Wilderness Lodge.

I believe CSR has a suite which will sleep 5 as well, but I'm not sure on that one.

Or, she could go to a villa at one of the Vacation Club resorts. Generally you need a two bedroom to fit five there, however.

The suites are wonderful!!! but they are expensive. I would suggest looking at the villas in AK, BW, BC or WL. You get a lot of square footage for your dollar. Not as fancy and no concierge but for a larger family they work great.

The DVC one bedroom villas sleep four plus one under the age of three. Two bedrooms sleep eight plus one under the age of three. One bedrooms have one king bed in the bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Two bedroom villas will have a king bed in the master bedroom and either two queens or one queen and one double sleeper sofa in the second bedroom with a queen sized sleeper sofa in the living room.

The Animal Kingdom Villas have some one bedroom villas that sleep five with a king bed in the bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa and twin sleeper chair in the living room.

DVC villas include Old Key West, Saratoga Springs Resort, Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Villas.

Here is a link to the FAQ thread ( It has lots of photos and info on the first page. There are reviews scattered throughout the thread starting around page 7 and lots of photos I took on page 11 )about the Family Suites at All Star Music:

The fridge is larger under the counted size with a small frezzer.

The Family Suites sleep 6. There is a queen size in the master area which will sleep 2 persons. There are 3 fold outs in the living /sleepingarea. The fold out sofa will sleep two and the fold out sofa and the fold out ottoman both sleep more person.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard:

What is her budget? Is she looking for something on the less expensive side (say All-Stars), one with a kitchen (1 and 2 bedrooms at Beach Club, Wilderness, Boardwalk, Cabins at Fort Wilderness, etc) or does she want a true suite (Hawaii building at the Polynesian)? Other considerations include location, how old her children are (near MK or not) and what they want to do on their trip. I like the idea of the Fort Wilderness Cabins but not sure if it is 'Disney' enough for a first trip? The All-Stars or one of the other resorts near the MK may be a bit more in the magic...

Depending on budget, the GF has some lovely concierge suites. And unlike the other options (All-Stars, villas)....this one is directly on the monorail.

The GF 2 bedroom suite has a main living room area (with table, chairs, pullout sofa bed) with two bedrooms off the living area; one bedroom has a king bed, and the other bedroom has 2 queens. 3 full bathrooms total. Also has concierge service.

To give you an idea, we paid $1,500 a night--and that was 3 years ago. This is probably one of the more expensive suite options. But it was really nice!

More information - They are a family of 5 with 2A and 3C (11, 8 and 6). We are a family of 5 also and are frequent visitors who own DVC so we are familiar with some options. We have stayed at POP, ASSp, ASMo, POR and DVC studios, 1 and 2 BRs at several of the DVC resorts. We have never stayed at any moderate other than POR or any of the deluxe resorts that weren't part of DVC. They would like one separate bedroom. A pull out sofa is fine. I have seen many different room types that list they will sleep 5 or more but I don't know which ones have separate bedrooms. The ASMu family suites would be a good option if they were available. I don't think they would like the cabins at Fort Wilderness. I'm not sure what their budget would be, probably on the mid to higher side, but I don't think they'd go up to the thousand dollar a night range. I noticed a junior suite at CSR - Does that actually have a separate bedroom? What about the mini-suite at WL that someone mentioned earlier? Are the AK 1BR villas that sleep 5 actually for rent for cash already? Thanks for all the information so far and keep it coming!

Sorry, I do not know the answer about AK 1BR villas.

Family Suites at All Star Music.

I hope that helps.

I know many people love to stay on site, but if she would consider staying off site there are fabulous options. We stayed in a lovely home with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a nice open kitchen and our own pool for around $800 for the week in October. I have listed it in the Orlando area attractions and gave it a great review. The pool area is completely enclosed and private. What an awesome retreat after a day with the crowds. We did cocktails in the pool every day!

Thank you so much for all the information! - especially the floor plans. She really wants to stay onsite for their first visit. I had mentioned renting points or a DVC reservation. We can't do it because we have used our points for this year and next (and also we go so often I don't think we will ever have extra points to rent =)) Thanks again all!

don't think any of the AKV are on rent at CRO yet.

Yes, they are. I booked a 1-BR Villa at AKV that sleeps 5 for Jan 4-7, 2008. First I priced it online and then called CRO and was able to book at AAA rates. I called later when AP rates came out for January and they switched me to an AP rate of $299/night.
