Hi all! I need help!! I am grocery shopping for dis on Sunday and want to pack breakfast and lunch foods in our suitcase (flying). What should I bring? We're not going to have a fridge, hotpot, etc.

This is what I'm thinking thus far-

english muffins
peanut butter/honey
apples
applesauce
fiber one bars

any other suggestions??

I've done trips where we lived on peanut butter - good stuff! :thumbsup2

On my last trip to DL I carried packs of peanut butter crackers and cheese crackers - those came in real handy too. :)

Depending on how much you are spending on groceries, gardengrocer.com may be a good alternative.

You will have access to a microwave in ASMu foodcourt, so get the soups in the single-serve microwavable plastic cans. We've found them for $.60 each.

Poptarts are OK eaten cold.

Cereal bars.

Summer sausage usually doesn't require refrigeration until you open the package, so look for smaller sausages that you could consume in one sitting. Same goes for some pre-packaged, processed cheeses such as cheese balls.

I second oatmeal - you should be able to get hot water from a coffee pot - If not our family loves Quaker's big oatmeal squares.

Dry cereal is great to munch on - even without milk. Kids can eat some in the room and then put some in a baggie and have them take it into the park with them.

Mini bagels are great too - pb, honey, etc.

Granola bars are good - not just in the AM

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to stay somewhat healthy too.... :goodvibes

  • Hard boiled eggs. Eggs don't really require refrigeration.
  • GORP (Good old raisins and peanuts) or any other snack mix that you would prefer.
  • Oranges/Grapefruit. Citrus travels well.
  • Cereal bowls and boxed milk. It's amazing that there is milk out there that doesn't require refridgeration.
  • Coffee. Bring your own favorite flavor for a cup of joe in the a.m.
  • Bagels. Especially mini bagels travel well.
  • Flavored/or not tuna packets. Bring along some mayo packets and/or relish (or pick some up in the food court) to make your own tuna salad. Bring some tasty whole grain crackers for a good lunch. And/or bring some tortillas/wraps to make your own.
  • Carrots. Not baby carrots. The large unpeeled kind. Then bring your peeler with you for some fresh food. It'd be tasty with the tuna. They shouldn't go limp for a short weekend.
  • Beef jerky.
  • Homemade cookies/chocolate. Pack them well and having the tasty dessert will be a nice addition to home brought lunch.
That's all I got right now. I used to go backpacking. If I remember more, I'll post again.
Have a great vacation!

We packed a loaf of bread in a shoe box to go with the peanutbutter
Fiber One bars or any garnola bars

Trail mix. Goldfish. Sweet N' Salty bars. Handi-Snacks cheese and crackers.

We always bring cereal and just pick up the milk each morning at the food court. My mom also likes to make chex mix to keep in the room for a snack with nuts for a little protein too.
Also, if you're a coffee drinker, you may want to bring some grounds and the individual creamers.

We took a box of Little Debbie blueberry muffins in November. They are individually packgaged and worked great. These may be only available regionally. I'm not sure.

I was thinking of bringing peanut butter and bagels but have read that peanut butter and other dense things tend to trigger a bag search at the airport. I guess it looks like a bomb?

I'm not thrilled about my bag going thru a search behind the scenes just because I wanted to bring some peanut butter. Anyone have any experience with this?

Anne

These are what we usually bring, a nice filling/easy/quick/cheap breakfast to get you through a morning at the parks!!

I am going to pack individual packets of Cheez It crackers and peanut butter crackers to take to the parks. I will also bring some granola bars and Fiber One bars. I may also bring some beef jerky, gum, and fruit snacks. We plan on picking up water and pop to keep in our room fridge.

Will there be any coffee in the room? Or do we need to bring our own?
