Was there an incident at the park where a man tried to hold hostages and then kill himself at the Minion Mayhem? I am saying and thinking what? This is a great ride for someone to ruin everyone's fun. It reminds of the crazy person who fell off Space Mountain or those teens who got killed in the Disneyland people movers.

like the poster above me stated, it wasn't at the orlando parks but at hollywood one.

According to the story it was in the smoking area BEHIND the attraction. Doesn't appear to be a hostage situation.

Freaking weirdo's.

In any event, could have easily been a Disney park. This is yet another reason why I scoff at people when they claim anyplace is "safe".

No, it's not "safe". You simply *feel* safe there. Two completely different things.

Safer than walking through downtown Chicago at night? Definitely. Safe? you obviously haven't look up the definition of safe, lol.

It appears very few to no children witnessed the event and with no one else injured, there are two silver linings to this cloud.

Nowhere is 100% safe these days. This doesn't appear to be random act-- LA times article says his ex GF works there and had restraining order against him. Still scary-- I was there yesterday with kids. Never thought about lack of metal detectors til now.

"These days" ? A california man is getting parole right now for burying 26 children alive 40 years ago... it isn't really any more dangerous today than it was 40 years ago. The news just focuses more on it today than back then.

The Cali parks aren't as busy as the ones in Florida but trying to actually screen 50,000 visitors a day is a tremendous undertaking. Not to mention the thousands of employees and vendors.

I say actually because it's all security theater, it's there for show be it at US/IOA or WDW. It's just enough so it "looks like" they are doing something but it's also not so intrusive you don't have people thinking unhappy thoughts going into a "fun" place. Besides, phones cameras, strollers, scooters, backpacks... without xray machines or drastic changes to what's allowed in the park, they could never do it... successfully anyway and that's why they don't.

It's more dangerous going to a supermarket or shopping mall than a themepark, so I wouldn't let this bother you.

This is a great ride for someone to ruin everyone's fun.

I wouldn't worry about that.

2 weeks ago, not far from where I live, a first officer commited suicide by crashing an airliner into a mountain killing all 150 onboard ... . That's ruining a lot of people's fun ...

people go crazy all the time, anywhere, even at theme parks.

Should it have any impact on what we do ?
Nope. Stuff happens.
