Hi all restaurant experts-

Here is my situation. My DH and DS (age 5) are going to Disney this Christmas. My MIL is joining us for two nights and I need to figure out what would be the best place to take her to eat for nice dinner meals.

She will have just turned 76 and she is having some problems with her hips so she won't be able to walk around all day. (although it does amaze me at how much energy she has!) We really will be competely open to any location (ie hotels and parks) as we are staying on site, but I don't want it to fancy so that I will have to be concerned about my son.

Please all give me your best advise - I really appreciate it in advance
:wave2:

Thanks,
Patty

For a nice dinner, I would suggest Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club. We ate there recently and found everything was perfect. Although its one of the "nicer" places we did see kids of all ages there.

We always love LTT. We ate their last year with my parents (in their 70's) and they loved it. It is a sit down family style Thanksgiving meal. You get salad, turkey, mashed potatos, carved beef, pork loin chops, stuffing, mac and cheese. and desert. This is a character dinner with Minnie, Meeko, Chip and Dale and I think Pluto. The nice thing about it is it is not crazy and if the characters will be there for your son but it is not crazy. I think my parents enjoyed having their picture taken with Minnie but did not have wait on line in the parks.

The other place I would suggest is 'Ohanas at the Poly. We ate there with my parents also and they loved this too. It is also an all you can eat family style dinner. They come around to the table with skewers of turkey, shrimp, beef and you get a pupu style platter with eggrolls, salad, rice, veggies and dipping sauces. They will refill your plate as often as you like. If you sit in the main room they have a little show (someone singing and play the youkalie (?SP). They also have hula hoop contests and coconut races for the kids so you son will also be entertained. The great thing about this is if you time it right and request a window seat you get to watch Wishes at MK. They dim the lights and pipe in the music. It is a great way of viewing Wishes with out all the crowds.

Have a wonderful time, Linda

You don't have to worry about taking your son to any of the WDW restaurants except Victoria and Alberts.

Kids are everywhere and all the restaurants have kids menus.

My DH is 70 and loves all of the Epcot restaurants. He also liked Boma because he could try just a little of each item. The buffets also all have a kids section.

You can go to allearsnet.com and check out the menus so you can see which places serve what she would like.

I also have a lot of probems walking around all day because of my knees. My last trip I finally gave in a rented an ECV - boy what a difference! I will be using one again next week and it is really worth the price.

We ate at LeCellier's in Canada with DD 7 - she brought her backpack with things to entertain herself, the servers and others often stopped and asked how she was doing ("How are things princess?" she loved the attention) I couldnt believe we were there for almost 2 HOURS!! It just didnt feel that way! The steaks were FANTASTIC - the atmospherre was quiet and soothing.

We ate at Ohana's at the Poly. The food was great - loved that appetizer plater. We had PS for 6 was seated at 6:30, a window view (either would have been fine, it was 6 not near time for wishes btw!) I didnt want chicken or pork, just steak and shrimp, they still brought the food, I just didnt eat it. DD doesnt like meat, so they brought her french fries... and she was very entertained with the hula hoop game and the coconut races, which gave us time to talk and enjoy our food, it gave her a great distraction.... With the Poly if your mil wont be going in the parks (walking issues??) maybe a resort meal would be better?

If you could get balcony seating at Rose and Crown for the Illuminations Show that would be ideal. That was a highlight of our last trip with parents.

You might want to think about renting an ECV. My Mom used one and it worked out great. Very easy to rent and have delivered to your hotel and easy to use too.

I would recommend an Epcot rest. just because the atmosphere in the WS is so nice at night. We have taken our children (at various ages) to: Teppanyaki, R&C, Le Cellier, SAI. If we think we are going to be in a restaurant a long time I bring along their gameboys or a book for them to read if they get bored. But my kids rarely get bored in a Disney restaurant.

If you are going to any parks with her, do you think she might enjoy Prime Time 50's. It would be fun, you don't have to dress and I always get a kick out of look at the retro kitchen kitch!!

I'd plan on a resort restaurant rather than a park restaurant. If your grandmother is having a "bad day" she might very much welcome someplace a little easier to get to.

Some excellent and family friendly choices would be the Yacht Club Galley, the Kona Cafe, the GF Cafe, and Spoodles.

They are all casual, excellent food, and very family friendly. If you decide to go to the YC Galley, ask for Steven as a server, he's wonderful!

I would suggest a character meal for Grandma and your DS. Cute pictures and the characters make lots of fuss over both son AND grandma. We took my MIL when she was 79 and she had lots of fun and many precious pictures.

I like the idea of 50's Prime Time for something a little different without characters. The two "nicer" restaurants we like are Le Cellier and Artist Point. I really like the atmosphere of Artist Point, ask for a window seat.
