So it looks like we are going to be heading to Pigeon Forge Tn. this summer for a reunion. I have heard that there is a lot to do, and I am kind of excited. (Not Disney, but hey...:confused3)

A friend of mine told me that it is better to get a cabin because they are roughly the same cost of hotels. Can anyone recommend a good cabin rental company?

Of course we are open to anything so bring on the suggestions.

Would love to see any pics you guys might have too.

Thanks!

We loved Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg!
We stayed at the Dollywood Vacations rental cabins...they are really nice, have every size and price range and are wonderfully located. If you plan on going to Dollywood or the water park at all, they offer great discounts. We got length of stay tickets for the price of one day, that included free parking and discount on food and merchandise inside the parks.
Just one option as I know there are many great ones, but we loved them...lots of photos of each cabin on the website:

Wow, thank you so much. I went to the website and DH is very excited...It is hard to get him excited about spending $$...:laughing:

We just took our first trip to TN (Pigeon Forge) this past August. Now mind you, were big Disney people and love everything Disney. But we wanted to do something a little different.

We drove down (about a 14hr drive) and we stayed here.....

We stayed in the "Wine Down" cabin. Absolutely gorgeous!!! The pictures do not do it justice. And this "neighborhood" of cabins is right off the strip in Pigeon Forge. And maybe a 5 minute drive to the parking lot that you can catch the bus to Dollywood and Splash Country. We did Dollywood twice and once at Splash Country (bought a 3-day pass) We would have liked it better if we did the water park twice instead (just liked it better than the park, not that there's anything wrong with the park but with two teenage boys, they preferred the water park) But at the time that we went, both parks were only opened on certain days. Just worked out that way.

We also took a drive to Gatlinburg and then up the mountains for some sighseeing. Truly a beautiful place!!!

We have rented two different cabins from this rental company and had a great experience both times. We will use them again the next time we go (probably a year from now). We love that area, so much to see and do. And the cabins are really nice, both times exactly as pictured on their web site. The views were awesome. I could have sat on the balcony upstairs just looking at the mountains all day long. :) We always enjoy the many drives through the mountains, and taking hikes. And there are many, many touristy things to do in the downtown areas of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Many shows, helicopter tours, zip lining, white water rafting, shopping, lots and lots of wonderful restaurants, etc.

going to suggest you look for a place on paved roads depending on your car. Also, in general, if not staying at a chain type hotel/resort, look into the cancellation agreement. A lot of privately owned places have policies that do not allow 24 hour cancellations...and personally, we usually like to have a place that offers an indoor pool in case of rain ruining a trip. Not too many places there that offer it, but a few.

If you have kids that love to swim, we've stayed at the River Chase Inn. It's not cabins, but its nice size rooms. Plus they have an outside waterslide and an inside waterslide that is really big. My kids had a blast and hardly wanted to do anything else!! The outside of the motel looks like log cabins.

Don't know if you know or if its been meNtion but there is the titanic museum!

If renting a cabin, I would be very careful and find out if it is in foreclosure. Just like the Disney area took a big hit with vacation rentals, so did the Pigeon Forge area. There are lots of vacation cabins in various stages of foreclosure.

We are kind of thinking about purchasing one and I know the inventory is huge.

We love going and are having a huge family trip in June! We were season ticket holders to Dollywood last year and may be again this year! We rented a condo which was cheaper than a hotel room, but this time we are going with a cabin so all of us can stay together!

I just wish there was somewhere in Pigeon Forge to buy t-shirts and pancakes...;)

You're in luck! I just spent the two days I had off from work (due to the blizzard!) researching this very thing. We have a cabin booked for the week of July 4 for an extended family reunion and somehow I became the family trip planner.

Here's a partial list of what we are going to do:

White water rafting
Ziplining
National park tour
Moonshine Distillery Tour (free! with samples at the end)
Tour of Biltmore (just over the mountain in Asheville, NC)
The Alpine Slides (VERY fun!)
Dollywood and Splash Country

I have done extensive research as to the best (aka Cheapest) way to do all of these, and also which companies have the best reviews. I have to leave for work, but if you want more info, let me know! I found some great deals!

By the way, we are renting a cabin through www.sugarmaplecabins.com. We have stayed with them many times, and each cabin has been fantastic!

I can't help you with the cabin stuff other than to second VRBO (I don't do cabins-they may have a kitchen and I don't cook on vacation!) but I can help you with ideas. Definitely do Dixie Stampede. Check out Dollywood for a fun place to go and do Splash Country too. Also, there is a part of Gatlinburg that you can walk around and check out the little shops and also Ober Gatlinburg. If you're into shopping, there is definitely lots of outlet malls to shop at. We use to get all of DS and DD's school clothes while there.

Have a great time!!
