We will be staying at Fort Wilderness in one of the cabins From October 6th-11th. Staying will be me, my two kids (D7 & S9), my sister, and grandma and grandpa. We will be flying, so that limits the extras we can bring. Any suggestions to make the cabin feel homey or any ideas for convenience?

My parents took us to the camp ground every other year since DW opened. We have wonderful memories of the campground, the ferry, Hoop De Doo, and of course River Country. We want to share some of those experiences with the kids. Two years ago we took my kids for the first time and we stayed at the Contemporary. It was comfortable, but it just wasn't the same.
I really want to make the most out of our trip. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!

I can't believe in less than a month we'll be in Disney!!:banana::love::yay::woohoo:

IMO to have fun and a great family time you only need to bring yourself and Disney will do the rest.

Bring Flashlights...for those late night walks from the bus stops or the beach.

This. :thumbsup2

Also, if you are renting a golf cart, bring some ribbon or a scarf to tie to it so it is easier to find -- especially in the dark. All of the carts are numbered, but all the WDW carts look the same.

What a great idea!! I don't think it would have occured to me. And I grew up camping :goodvibes

Bring your credit card.

That's why I'm bringing Grandma and Grandpa:rotfl:

Thanks for all the great advice. When we camped growing up we had a camper. We brought everything with us and never had to worry about what would fit. I'm really getting geared up now.:thumbsup2

We have stayed in the cabins for the last 9 years and have never needed a flash light. The cabins all have an outside light that goes on at dusk so you can see your way at night. You might need one in the cabin, just in case.
We also bring coffee and the regular round coffee filters, a night light for the bathroom, and we save small packages of catsup, mustard, and salt and pepper to bring.
The cabins are really complete with almost any thing you would need. Have a great trip you will love the Fort and the cabins.

Things we bring to the cabin:

1. plastic table cloth for the picnic table on the deck
2. some type of lawn chairs for the deck
3. christmas lights to wrap around the deck railing
4. battery operated string lights for the golf cart
5. cappuccino machine (I know...but there is a need and there is no starbucks)
6. appropriately sized coffee mugs
7. paper plates and plastic cups (they have dishes but they are so heavy and seem to be more trouble than they're worth for the snacky stuff we tend to eat there)
8. hanging closet organizer to hold my kids' clothes (the storage space is minimal)
9. beach towels for the pool

I like to use a Torch instead of flashlights. It saves on batteries.

Course,, I also like to get all hunched over, swinging my left arm back & forth as I drag my right foot in the dirt, while carrying the Torch above my head.

( I'm just a romantic like that)

You are too funny! I put my flashlight down the front of my shirt so it shines on my face and then I make scary BooHaHa sounds....there is nothing more fun than walking around a campground with a flashlight (or your torch) at night and looking for the red eyes in the bushes. Especially in October....late at night....at the Fort. There are lots of spooky things hiding along the path from the beach. I have heard them...all of my Grand Children had spotted them using their Mickey flashlights...we usually have to run back to the camper....not once have those spooky things been able to catch us!
