Looks like it will just be the 4 of us this Easter. DSs are 7.5 & 9. For the 1st time in their lives, we will not be spending Easter with relatives. We will do the bunny in the morning. (They still believe - the 9 yr old at least claims he does.;) ) Then we will go to Mass. However, all of that only takes us up to noon. I was hoping to come up with something to make the afternoon a special family time. Anyone have any suggestions on activities - either at home or an outting?

We have been spending Easter with just us 5 for a while. Last few years, FIL has joined us and now this year, my family wants to join us!

I really enjoyed it just being me, DH and our 3 DD's. We usually go for brunch after church and the Easter bunny. Then we visit.

This year we will open Easter bunny baskets, go to church, then brunch with now 15 of us!! Then, something new for us, come back to my house and have an Easter egg hunt for the children. We will put quarters in the eggs (maybe a few Disney dollars in some). We can only hope it stops snowing!!!!

Enjoy your day..........

Do you have a zoo nearby?

We are thinking of doing that this Easter and who knows it might be a fun family tradition! :)

We have a scavenger hunt. The clues are hidden inside plastic eggs. The last clue has a more difficult venture in to it and leads up to the baskets.

I was just about to post what Jody did!!! Great minds think alike!;) Scavenger hunt would be a lot of fun.

What is your family's history regarding nationality? Check on line for some traditions that come from that. You could incorporate some of those ideas, and learn about your ancestors in the process.

This doesn't take long but it's a nice family tradition we did at a friend's house once.

Inside an Easter egg (the Mom filled each little slip out & filled the eggs with them in the morning before anyone was up), my friend put a little slip (like a fortune cookie) inside each egg with a request like "say something complimenting your brother Sam" or "think of a bible verse that describes your sister" (those kids knew Bible scripture like nobody's business!) Something to that order....change the sayings to whatever fits into your family life & do this each year so hopefully they will share this tradition with their kids someday. I thought it was neat but my kids had been too young to do this in the past. We might try it this year though since you helped me bring it to mind! Thanks!! ;)

We usually have Easter dinner at my house with my parents and whichever of DH's sisters families can make it. It's usually pretty layed back--buffet style, everyone brings a dish, etc.

This year we decided that if it is over 65 degrees (okay I can dream), we are going to have an Easter Barbeque. We are all so sick of the cold weather and snow up here. To heck with ham and mashed potatoes ;) .

So, if we have a warm day:

Egg hunt outside
Church
Relatives arrive
Mimosas
Kids can play basketball
BBQ
Be lazy the rest of the day

We put jelly beans, small chocolates, pocket chg, inside those plastic eggs and hide them in the yard if it's nice. In the house if not. Each child is only allowed a certain amount of eggs.

Older children have to overlook the obvious ones! Thye love it and look forward to it every year!

Suggestions:

> Some sort of family craft that you could all work together to create (spring banner, etc)

> Go to a local park together to fly a kite or balsa wood plane (that was in their Easter basket, of course)

> Family "nature" walk to enjoy the (hopefully) spring weather

> Picnic

> Contact a local nursing home and prepare a little something (maybe small spring plant or flower) to take to each of the residents

> Special supper that everyone can help with -- create your own pizza, outside BBQ, etc.
