Friends of mine are visiting WDW in a few weeks the oldest DD (13) recently had corrective surgery for scoliosis. She cannot ride any "thrill" rides, so I came here looking for any special experience in the parks or at the resorts that she, her mom and her sister (10) can do during their visit that will enhance DD13s experience.

TIA

1. Cirque de Soleil at Disney Springs (this is going away next year & I highly recommend it)
2. Wanyama Safari or the nighttime safari at Animal Kingdom Lodge
3. Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle
4. She can drive a small Sea Racer boat on Bay Lake (rentable at any of the Bay Lake resorts)
5. Hoop Dee Doo Revue dinner show
6. Sci Fi Dine-In Theater at Hollywood Studios is an attraction in itself, as well as a restaurant.
7. A carriage ride at Fort Wilderness or Port Orleans resort.

As the above post mentioned, a horse & buggy ride at one of the resorts. We did it at Port Orleans Riverside resort.
There is also The Amphicar ride at Disney Springs. A boat that looks like a car takes you on a 20 minute ride around the lake. It is a bit expensive though.

What abou the afternoon tea at Grand Floridian? They can get a bit dressed up & spend a relaxing afternoon. I believe there is a family tour at MK. But I would imagine there would be a good bit of walking. Don't know if she will be up to that.

I would not advise the Sea Racers. I have back problems and I was miserable on that thing.
Bob Jackson at Port Orleans Riverside would be fun.

We did a fireworks cruise from Grand Floridian as a birthday gift one year, it was magical.

Thanks everyone I'm going to share these ideas! This young lady is my DD's friend and she is a strong athlete who has been sidelined with this surgery - I'm so glad to have these options to share with them to help make this trip memorable for her!

DISBoards never disappoints! :thanks:

I was going to suggest the tea at Grand Floridian as a PP mentioned, but I also wanted to say that I had corrective surgery for scoliosis when I was younger so I can totally relate. I remember feeling so down at first and it was very hard, but I was soon able to do everything I did before. I want to say after about 9 months I could do all my high school activities again, including twirling a flag and dancing. I am able to ride all rides at Disney (well except the ones that spin and make me sick, ha!). I hardly even remember I have the rods. Sorry this turned out so long... I just wanted to wish your daughter's friend a magical trip and give her some encouragement!

When I was about that age, my parents booked me on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. Disney still offers this tour and it was awesome! You got to go to a lot of backstage areas and see a lot of areas that the general public never see. Interesting for all ages.

Thank you - I will share this! And yes, they gave her the same 9 month recovery period. She is a competitive swimmer with my DD, they had a meet yesterday which she chose to participate in even though she was not allowed to dive off the blocks or do any flip turns. And she did incredibly well despite those things. She's anxious to get back to her old self that's for sure. I was talking with her mom yesterday and she was telling me about their plans then said she had a bowling night planned....and as she said it she realized DD13 actually couldn't participate in the bowling *sigh* that's when I got home and thought, let me ask the DISers about some other fun things they could do!

I thought about suggesting a tour (I want to take one someday), I checked the site to forward her the info and minimum age for Keys to the Kingdom is now 16, wow!

I second the idea of a dessert party, when my DD was her age (also a competitive swimmer) she could eat her weight in sweets.

If they like swimming in salt water, EPCOT offers an Aqua Seas Tour. They will get to go behind the scenes and snorkel in the big aquarium. We have never done this tour, but the family has done the Dive Quest many times and love it!
