We are going to Disney for my parent's 50th anniversary and bringing my young kids. Frankly we are spending the bulk of our budget on lodging and tickets, but would like to do one fun meal together, for everyone. I would love any creative suggestions to get the most for my money and also make it enjoyable for my kids. My parents are not formal people, if that helps. I have never eaten anywhere at Disney except one counter service place in Epcot, so I am truly clueless, the more research I do , the more confused I get!! Thanks for your time.:confused3

Do you want to eat in the parks or at a resort? Characters or No characters? And does it matter if it is a buffet?
Sorry to answer you questions with questions...just want to have the info to help make suggestions. :)

You mention your parents aren't formal people, you want everyone to have a good time and you want a bang for your buck. I would say hands down go to Whispering Canyon Cafe. It's fun and the serving sizes are large.

Boma is awesome if you are looking for a buffet, and Kona is really good as well (love the Tonga Toast). If you are looking for a character breakfast I would suggest Crystal Palace at MK.

One of the best kept breakfast buffet secrets at WDW is the Cape May breakfast buffet.

You will have a wonderful character experience for the children (but adults won't be ignored either) and the food selection is really nice. Far better than the often touted Boma's (which was pretty poor the last time we were there this past summer).

We are renting points and staying at the new Kidani Resort. I suppose it doesn't matter if it's at a resort or at the parks, really. Again, I don't know the pros and cons. A character experience would be great, my parents would love it too actually, we've never been to Disney together and due to my fathers' health it will most likely be our last Disney trip together. I wish money wasn't an object but it is so we are making the most of what we have! And it doesn't matter if it's breakfast or a buffet or whatever. I suppose I am looking for a lot in one meal, LOL, just want a memorable experience for all. Thank you all so much, you guys are just great.

In 09, we went with 3 generations in a large group and did several character breakfasts. I think that for overall enjoyment and food quality, the pick would be Cape May at the Beach Club. Although I don't think it's the best food variety (it's just typical breakfast fare), it was the quietest, cleanest, and definitely the best character interaction.

My husband and I are in our 50's and we found most of the character meals to be an absolute zoo. There were 11 of us at Cape May, it was quiet enough that we were able to actually converse and the staff was so friendly.

Thank you all, I am checking into Cape May, that seems like a great idea.

I vote Crystal Palace. Food is good and a wide selection. Characters are Pooh and Friends. who doesn't love pooh.... :) We also truly enjoyed lunch at Askurhs (sp) if you happen to have a princess in the party. the wanabe prince charmings have fun too. It has a small cold cut and cheese buffet and then a famliy style menu. Group photo included and if you are on the dinning plan only one credit. Can't go wrong.

I'd go with either 'Ohana or Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Buffets are good, but since this is for a big family dining together it's nicer for you to sit back and be served. You can enjoy each other's company more because people won't be getting up and down to get food all of the time from a buffet.

At 'Ohana, your family can enjoy the characters and the parade around the restaurant. At WCC, there are antics for all ages and a stick pony parade for the kids. Both restaurants are places where the food is brought to your table and both have a nice atmosphere.

Wow, I never thought of that. Mom and Dad and their friend may like being served rather than a buffet. And my boys love Stitch, so Ohana's sounds great too. My kids are all terrified of Alice so 1900 is out and none of them are Pooh fans, really. I guess it's between Ohana's and Cape May and Donalds Safari. I wonder if you get a lot more selection/food choices with the buffet at Cape May? Probably not.

I go to Ohana. I like the family-style aspect. It's nice to not have to get up; it's easier with kids. The menu is good and the characters are great.
