Suggestions for Late Half Day in LA

Nothing like waiting till the last minute, but...

We are flying into San Diego Wednesday around noon with a 12 & 14 yo, renting a car, and driving to LA. We are staying at the Sheraton Anaheim and spending Thursday at Disney. We are then driving back to San Diego Thursday night for five nights at the Hotel Del.

We’ve basically got our San Diego itinerary down but are still undecided what to do with the first half day in LA (given jet lag and a full day on Thursday). Any ideas? We are also open to any gems we might have missed in San Diego.

So I'm assuming that you're going to be in the Orange County area and not the Los Angeles area right?
Well there are things near Anaheim that you can do for half a day like the Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum in Buena Park by Knott's Berry Farm. There are also the dinner shows like the Pirates Adventure and Medieval Times which are also located on the same street right across from each other.

Well, we have a car and would be willing to travel, so we wouldn't necessarily limit ourselves to the Anaheim area.

On the way to Anaheim, you might stop at the San Juan Capistrano Mission - it's one of the most beautiful missions of the 21 that were established when the Spaniards came to California.

On Wednesday, you might consider going to the beach & having a meal out there, & just enjoying the beach, either at Newport or Huntington.

L.A. and Anaheim are world's apart, and the drive up and back from Anaheim to L.A. on a late afternoon is pretty nightmarish. I'd spend some time in Newport Beach or maybe see San Juan capistrano, you won't want to drive any further than Anaheim just for an afternoon. Sorry to say, but most of your time would just be spent in freeway traffic.
