Suggestions for Extra Stroller Storage?

Hi-
We will be taking our Combi City Savvy stroller on our trip to WDW in Feb. It's what I would call a "deluxe" umbrella stroller, I guess, with a small basket underneath. The problem is that the basket really doesn't hold much.
Anyone have any suggestions for a little extra space? Someone on here recommended the stroller hooks, which sound useful. Will it be a pain to carry around a backpack, too, or is that pretty much a requirement when you have a little one?
Can you tell I've never done DW with kids??!! :rotfl: It's a whole different vacation, huh? ;)

Thanks

We just bring a back pack, and put it on the back of the stroller. (Put the straps over the handles, just like you would put it over your arms) It fits nicely, and if we want to take it with us on a ride, or to eat, we can take it off and wear it. They also sell net bags to go over the back of the stroller.

there's also a cool mesh type stroller bag that www.onestepahead.com sells. It's really cheap too, but I think when I checked it out last week it was on back order. It just attaches to the back handles and gives you some nice extra space. I just checked it out and now it says it's in stock!

We've been several times with our double stroller and while it has a large basket underneath if you have a child in the back seat their feet end up in the basket area. My solution was to make "saddle bags" for the sides of our stroller. They were easy to make and I was able to customize them to the size I needed to accommodate our stuff. I put straps on the bags to I could put them over my shoulder when we detached them for buses etc. They worked out really well for us.

We have one of the net bags on the back of our double (I like it for things I need at hand). It holds a good amount. It depends on your kids' ages and how much you need. As we went through the parks each day, we brought less with us! The backpack was a bit of a pain, but the best choice for us because it was easy to put it on our back and carry a child at the same time, which would be harder with a shoulder bag.
You should probably think about what you will need in the parks during the day and gauge it from there. I think BabiesRUs has the net bags for the stroller if you don't want to order online or if you want to see it first. Also, the hooks are good too- especially if you buy something- you can hang the bag on it. I dont' use the stroller hooks specifically- I use the links for my kids toys and just hook them on the stroller handle. The bags slide in. Sometimes with a larger, heavier bag, they stretch out, but they have held up pretty well.

I carry a small square type diaper bag. I use the straps and hang it off the back of the stroller handles. You could use a tote size soft sided cooler and hook that off the stroller.

Just be careful when hanging things off the back of the stroller....it can cause the stroller to tip backwards when lifting the child out. That has happend way too many time to me.

I had the Combi Savvy. Loved it. But not at WDW. Hooks and backpacks will slide off the rounded handle.

I highly reccommend that you but another for your trip. Cosco/Graco and Baby Trend usually have one each season that is perfect for WDW needs and it should run you no more than $40-50. I just saw one on Babiesrus.com, but couldnt get the link posted. Sorry. It reclines, has a big canopy, BIG basket underneath, cup holders up top and a removable tray for the rider. Its not as light or compact as your Savvy. But it has a single hand release and can be toted in one hand. I also get neon tape and wrap the handle so i can easily spot it in stroller parking lots.

We took a double stroller last year but it can be a pain to store stuff because of the kids' feet and taking things in and out at rides if you didn't want to leave them unattended.

The first time we went with kids we had a cheapo diaperbag backpack that was not very comfortable to wear and wasn't big enough, IMO, to carry snacks and drinks for the family. Before the second time we went I picked up a nice Jansport backpack (around $60) that was a daypack and was meant to be worn for extended periods of time. It had nicely padded shoulder straps and and waist strap, a must in my experience because it takes some of the weight off your shoulders. It can hang from the stroller when walking around and then can be comfortably worn while waiting in line and you can easily carry a child. A couple of other nice things about a nice backpack: you can also carry your camera and/or camcorder, a spare outfit for a child and depending on the time of the year it can hold a sweater or jacket for the kids.

Call me cheap but I thought of it when my first was little. I use the baby chains/links and attach them to the handle area. They hold my extra bags and also cups with handles. With my double I use 3 chains (one on each side and one in the middle) and I also use them the "correct way" to chain the loveys to the side for each of my smaller girls. Any tote bag will work and I just make sure it is not too long as to drag. Just be careful not to load the bags too heavy as to tip when the kids get out of the stroller.

We like the Skip Hop diaper bag - www.skiphop.com They now have a few more styles, but we have the original Duo style and it works great. It has a strap that unclips and then the bag can be clipped around the stroller handle. I'm sure I'm not explaining it well...but it works great for us.

Oh, and to PaulaSue's point - yes, be sure to be careful of overloading on an umbrella type stroller, or you can counter-weight it. We use an ankle weight that closes with velcro (as opposed to the kind that just slip over the foot) and attach it around the foot rest on our Mac Triumph and it works like a charm. I'm not sure of the Combi footrests, but on our Mac it is flexible so we are even able to close it with the weight on it.

We have a mac and we can wedge the backpack aginst the back of the stroller and partly in the basket. It doesnt really of 'in' the basket. We also got these prince lion heart cup and bottle holder clips, love them. The would be difficult to explain so just google them. We have also used the s rings and our rain cover has a pocket on the back. We leave the rain cover on a lot of the time and just have it folded up on the hood when we do not need it. That way when we o in to a ride or to eat we cover the stroller so it stays dry if there is one of those quick out of nowhere rains. We have also found that one of the small kid size backpacks usually fit in the basket and carries enough stuff for the day.

When my DDs were little enough for a stroller, our best bag was a bag meant for cycling. It had velcro straps to attach onto bike handlebars that were the perfect size/distance to strap over the umbrella stroller handles. I was really sad when my youngest DD got too big and her wheelchair was to wide to use that bag anymore.
