I will be doing a grocery stop on our way to our WDW hotel for our vacation. What things have you taken to eat for breakfast in your room? I'm going to purchase a styrofoam cooler for our milk, but the rest will have to be non-perishable. We do not have a fridge or microwave, of coarse. So far I'm thinking bread and PBJ, granola bars, cereal, what else should I get?.......................

We always have fruit - apples, oranges, bananas, plums. Everyone eats one and we take an apple each in our backpacks to the parks.

My list is just like that, but I also get raisins, dried cranberries and some cashews. Then with the cereal I make ziploc bags of trail mix to carry with us. I also get Zone Perfect bars, they are more like a meal replacement for me than a regular granola bar. If your room has a coffee maker you can run a cycle of just water and then make instant oatmeal, just get a sleeve of foam cups at the store too. If you don't have a coffee maker but drink it daily try calling housekeeping and asking if they have any - many of the hotels do!

I also like bagels, Poptarts, and different types of breakfast bars. For snacks I usually get cheese/peanut butter crackers, Gold Fish Crackers, nuts, and cookies (I know some of the snacks aren't nutritious, but hey we're on vacation).

My DW packs cereal, pop tarts, granola bars.
We buy a foam cooler (and water bottles) at our grocery stop.
Each night we get milk from the gift shop and place in the foam cooler with ice from the ice machine.
In the AM - crereal & milk for brekfast.

We bring plastic bowls and spoons.
Enough for each AM. We also pack a small
garbage bag for each AM. We do not want to leave
a mess for mouse-keeping.

We also have a fruit bag waiting for us in our room
(pre-ordered from WDW florist). A few Mickey chocolates for
the kids to snack on are also included. The canvas bag is great
to bring home our WDW towels we buy.

Great ideas everyone, thanks. I especially like the one about using the coffee maker for the hot water for our oatmeal !! I would just rather eat our breakfast in our room than waste time and money in the morning when I can get to the parks right away on a full stomach, especially with 2 five yr. olds !!

Another Question::wave2:
Does anyone know if P.O French Quarter has a gift shop that might have milk to purchase? Or is the food court close enough that they may have milk to purchase each night?

If I'm going to be pounding the pavement all day, I need protein in the morning. What I do is bring several ziploc freezer bags with me, so I can rig a less-cold way to store some deli ham. I always get a roll of paper towels on the grocery stop, too; if you have food you'll need them.

I buy deli ham (it MUST be a preserved meat, either smoked or sugar-cured; pork seems to work best. Don't try this with chicken or turkey, as it will spoil too quickly), then wrap the deli pkg. in a few layers of paper towels before sealing it in a ziploc. I put it on top of the ice in the cooler, not buried down under it as I would with milk. Stored this way the ham will stay cool, but will not freeze.

In add'n to milk, I also buy the pint bottles of not-from-concentrate orange juice; they are just the right size to get 2 glasses each morning, since we only have 2 people who want it in the morning. Publix has very good muffins that keep quite well; we like those and cereal, as well as the ham. I also keep a bag of nuts handy; more protein.

I thought of precooked bacon? I know oscar meyer makes/sells this at Sam's club (I'm also in need of protein in the am)

POFQ had a gift shop with milk when we were there right before it closed for renovations. I assume they have restocked with fresh milk.

I bought one of those collapsable coolers that will fit in my luggage. I take this on all my trips and use it at home as well. I use to buy those styrofoam coolers but found this works better. I have even heard of people using these coolers as carry on's for there flight. As a matter of fact just the other day at Meijer I saw for the first time a collapsable cooler with wheels. That would be perfect as a carry on.
