Suggestions for Booking Dec 8-13th?

We are fairly new to the DVC thing and generally I plan and book well in advance. But....we are seriously thinking about a somewhat last minute DCL cruise Dec 13-20th and I was hoping to visit the Parks for a few days prior. I called MS this morning and had NO luck for availability (studio or 1 bdrm). I waitlisted for AKV and BWV but am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for me - maybe paying cash/half cash half points/anything else?? Just not sure what else I can do to try and get my WDW fix in before the cruise.

Waitlist for all the WDW DVC resorts - DVC sells out very quickly for all of December. Your best chance will be for SSR or OKW as they are the largest.

Consider a cash stay or an off site stay if you really want to visit during that time. The parks will still be relatively uncrowded that second week even though the DVC resorts will be full.

If you are using current or banked points, book any nights that are available for any resort, then WL for the remaining nights at that resort. Maybe Friday Dec 12th is available somewhere, even if no other night is.

In the mean time, book a cash fully refundable reservation somewhere so you know you have a place to stay. If your WL(s) comes through, then cancel your cash reservation and enjoy your DVC stay. If your WL has not come through more than 30 days prior to arrival and you are not a gambler, cancel the DVC reservation so that points don't go into holding and enjoy your non-DVC stay. If you are a gambler, then keep you WL in place until the day before check-in, but realize that it is likely the WL will still not come through and your points in the Dec reservaiton will go into holding.
