I have a disability that makes walking an issue. As a result I would like to do my best to save the strain for while I'm in the parks. I haven't been to DL since 93 but what I do remember is it is very large and there was a lot of walking to get into the park. Do some resorts have preferred shuttle locations that would get me closer to the entrances than others? The hotel need not be 'on site' since I remember many in the vicinity

You may want to consider Wilderness Lodge. The bus transportation to the parks is not far from the front entrance & the boat dock is not far from the pool. We stayed in the Wing over Roaring Forks which was not far from the lobby & centrally located. This worked out well for us as I was trying to reduce walking for an older family member.

This is the Disneyland board?

Best Western Park Place Inn and Park Vue are directly across from the pedestrian walkway on Harbor Blvd.

I could get from my room near the middle of Park Place Inn to the bag check line in 5 minutes or less. I'm plus sized and have had surgery on my ankle. No problem whatsoever.

In fact one night I left CA with leftovers walked to the room and put them in the fridge and then back to CA (bagcheck line and entrance line) in less than 15 minutes.

Park Vue is right next door to BWPPI.

My hotel was not fancy but it was very clean and it was a great price. ($106 plus tax). It books up fast.

Basically across the street on Harbor would be a short walking distance. Only a few of the hotels/motels in the area have their own shuttles (most seem to work with ART). ART shuttles stop in the main esplanade, and I don't believe that any arrive at a preferred location per se. They just sort of line up at the various shuttle stops. None is so much further that I would worry about it. You're talking about maybe 400 ft longer to walk from the closest to the furthest shuttle stop.

I don't believe any of the on-site hotels have shuttles per se. They're all "walking distance" by definition.

Here's a look at the main esplanade where the shuttles stop.

My mom has mobility issues (bad knee with an unstable kneecap and weak leg muscles) and we did break the walk up at the end of the night. There are a ton of benches along the walkway from Harbor to the gates. With her it was more like a 10 minute walk.

Here's a map of the area around DLR. You can see all the places on Harbor.

This link gives you satellite vies of the same area. You can even use the "point to point" for distances.

Desert Inn and Suites generally has the lowest rates when you book WAY in advance.
Tropicana's rates aren't far off from DI&S. The key is to book early for the lowest rate.

If walking can be a issue, have you considered renting a scooter? My DIL injured her foot on the first day of our last trip. I called Apple Scooter's of Anaheim and they delivered a scooter to our hotel in about 2 hours. Their rates weren't too bad, I think it was $90 for 4 days. Renting from an independent vendor meant she could use the scooter not only in the parks but to and from the hotel too.
Here are a couple of links for scooters. Apple Scooter - https://www.applescooter.com/Anaheim.asp and Deckerts Rentals - http://deckertrentals.com/

Enjoy your trip

I've stayed at both the Best Western Park Place, and the Park Vue. I prefer the Best Western because the rooms we've had there were bigger than the room we had at the Park Vue. Also, we had several (bad) noise issues at the Park Vue.
Whatever you do, when you make your reservation, you may want to mention your mobility issues & let them know you would like a room downstairs, near the front of the motel. That will save you quite a bit of walking.

YAY so many responses so quickly are such a help, I would like to book something before I pay for airfare so thanks for the input

Candy Cane Inn is not as close as the hotels others have mentioned, but they have a free shuttle that runs from the hotel to the esplanade and back. Plus it is an excellent hotel.
