suggestions for beach day in Nassau

Doing the 3 day cruise in a week or so and would like to make the bahamas stop a beach day for the 1 and 4 year old. Any suggestions on specific beaches or excursions?

Many people have mentioned getting off in Nassau and utilizing the free beach at the Wyndham hotel. If you do a search for "nassau beach", you'll find many threads about it. People either take a cab or the bus, bring their own towels and food, and spend the day there.

We did the Blue Lagoon excursion and loved it. If you'd like any info on it, just ask away.

Would it be suitable for a 1 year old?
How much and what types of things do they offer?


First crusie coming up in October and looking for a nice relaxing day at the beach when we are in port.

Hi we are on the Disney Wonder May 15th and are wondering what there is to do in Nassau would be grateful for any tips what is the Blue Lagoon trip about we are from the Uk

We did the Blue Lagoon day also last year, and our then 3 1/2 year old daughter loved it. We rented a small cabana tent and an inner tube (well, that was mostly for DH ). Erin spent the day building sand castles at the water's edge. Even the boat ride to and from the beach was fun... The boat had a reggae band playing and they got kids involved in dancing and stuff.

Hi -

There was a lunch included with this excursion, but tell you what -- after the great food on the cruise, the lunch was only so-so. It was a barbecue style -- hamburger, hot dog, that kind of thing with chips.

The beach, however, was great. It is an actual lagoon, so it is kind of enclosed, if you know what I mean. It is probably only about 5 feet deep in the center. The water is extremely calm so it would be perfect for the baby. Very sandy and nice. Water is very clear.

We didn't rent anything! We brought underwater masks and goggles from home and my girls had the best time just looking around underwater at the various tropical fish swimming around.

There is a small gift shop with souvenir type items, hammocks under the palm trees (no cost).

This was our second time here and we had an enjoyable time both visits.

We have 13,14 year old boys along with two 9 year old girls in our group. Would this excursion be suitable for all of us? Also are there any shaded areas? Jen

The first time we were at Blue Lagoon, my kids were 8, 7 and 3. They enjoyed playing in the sand at the edge of the beach and also going into the shallow water. My 3yo was very intimidated at another beach which had the crashing waves, but at Blue Lagoon she was able to go in the warm water with virtually no waves at all.

The second time we were there, my kids were 18, 16, 12 and 8. Every one of them had a ball. They loved going underwater with masks. My eldest spent most of the time sunbathing (I know, BAD!), while the rest of us were in the water practically the whole time.

Again, its very calm water, very clear and clean and sandy. If you go to the far edge of the lagoon, you will see lots of fish. There are shady areas on the hammocks under the palm trees, but there is plenty of sun along the beach.

Truly a wonderful place!

Timmbco, I honestly don't remember what the rentals cost (DH did it on his own - I'm not sure he ever even told me!), but I do think they were reasonable. The food, as Kris said, was so-so, but we weren't expecting a gourmet feast. As for crouds... There were none! I don't know if we just found a really secluded part of the beach, but there were only a couple of other families that we could see on our little slice of paradise.

As for what to bring... We brought towels from the ship, a couple of beach toys that we'd brought from home for DD, sunscreen and I brought a book to read. That was about it. It was a heavenly day, and I do highly recommend it!

So glad to hear some nice reviews of Blue Lagooon, as we have booked this as our excursion in Nassau for our May 7th trip! Cannot wait just to relax and have fun in the sun. Our kids are 5 and 7, so hopefully they will enjoy this.
I don't care about the food....other than worrying about getting sick fromit. I have read commetns on Trip advisor about Blue Lagoon and so many people mention getting physically ill after eating. I am assuming that all the drinks are bottled (ie: bottled water, etc????)

Having just got back from a 10 night stay at the Wyndham - Cable Beach I would HIGHLY recommed Blue Lagoon. Cable Beach is nothing spectacular while the water and beach on Blue Lagoon Island are pristine.
