Suggestions for arrival day

Can anyone give me some suggestions for things to do the day of our arrival. We are two couples going down for a long weekend. I have our days planned for Friday and Saturday but early afternoon arrival has me stumped for ideas.
The men are not really into going to any of the parks, they are there to golf. I made a dinner reservation for 7:30 at the micro brewery at the Boardwalk hotel for dinner. So from 1ish till then I would greatly appreciate some ideas that you have to offer.

even if they aren't into the parks i think they would enjoy at least world showcase in epcot. you can enter thru the international gateway and you can take them around the countries and they can sample beer/wine from different countries. it's not like the parks with rides so i think they would enjoy it. there are street acts and live concerts at different times during the day and then you can just head back out the international gateway and take a water taxi or walk to the boardwalk for the rest of your evening.

On my first day arrive I always hit the World Showcase in Epcot. Since that side of Epcot does not open until 11 am, I don't feel like I'm missing out on something. I love going to the countries and sampling the food and beer. This has become a tradition for me.

If the boys are golfing, why not spend the afternoon girl style? Book a spa afternoon with your girlfriend, get pampered and relaxed after the stress of planning/packing/travel.. or go shopping, Downtown Disney or the Broardwalk.. or Celebration is a cute town with wonderful shops..

I am planning the same thing for my arrival day. I have a dinner ADR for Les Chef de France-after that I may attend the Candelight Proc. or just walk around the countries. I plan on staying for Illuminations-I think this will make a great first night.

Can you believe even through I start my first day at Epcot, I still have not seen Illuminations? I'm normally with others that don't want to stick around that late because we're either heading to JRs or DTD. This October, since I'm solo, I plan to stay for Illuminations.

Teresa!!!!! You have never seen Illuminations? I have only been to Disneyworld 9 times and I have seen Illuminations at least 4 of those trips. . .

Since you are going in October I think the idea of going to World Showcase may just appeal to your men. Food and Wine fest is going on then and you can sample foods and beer/wine from around the world. . .Its a lot of fun and makes for a very tasty evening. . .I agree that entering through the International Showcase would make it seem like you were not hitting a park - however, it does use a park day. If you would rather not use a park day let me suggest heading to Downtown Disney and taking a hot air balloon ride (tethered), exploring the area, and stopping in one of the great restaurant bars for a drink before heading to the Boardwalk for your nightly entertainment. As for the bars I can suggest Raglan Road, House of Blues or Fultons (those are ones I have actually patronized).

I'm having a girly arrival day--tea at the GF. Though I've heard several say that their husbands enjoy it as well. If your guys won't, let them play golf while the ladies treat themselves.
