Suggestion for 5 people

Hi

Any suggestions for a resort for 5 people? Price needs to be reasonable. I did hear of one moderate value resort which could. We rather not stay off. The atmosphere of Disney property is great.

The resort you are thinking of is POR in the AB rooms. You can get the two double beds with a trundle bed for the 5 year old. There is a nightly charge for the trundle bed (@$15). This is a moderate resort.

You may also want to check how much it would be for 2 rooms at a value resort. You could get them connecting. As a comparison on our last trip we could have gotten CSR waterview for $100 per night or ASMo for $55 per night. So 2 rooms at the value would have been only slightly more than one at the moderate. This was early January with codes. Gives you more beds, extra tv and extra bathroom.

It would depend on if you want moderate or value level amentities, and how much space you all really need.

I'd go with 2 connecting rooms at a value or moderate resort. You'll have 2 bathrooms, 2 TV's, and more space and privacy for the adults.

There is a nightly charge for the trundle bed (@$15).

From what I've been reading on these boards, there is no longer a charge for the trundle bed at POR! Yippee!!!

Go with the 2 connecting rooms at a value. We did POP our last visit with 5, had connecting rooms and it worked out great. I'd rather have the extra space than trying to cram into a moderate with a trundle.

When I was a kid, we would stay at the Poly and the rooms were big enough and I don't recall any problems.

Now that they have connecting rooms at some of the resorts, I might opt for that route if for no other reason than to get the kids away from the parents. Just make sure they don't sneak out the other door while you are sleeping.

We stayed at the CR with kids aged 8, 5, & 1, and will again this year with them 12, 9, 5. dh & I will be in one bed, DD9 & DS5 in another, and DD12 will get the day bed all to herself (the priviledge of the oldest is to choose

IMHO you'll need a little more space than is possible in just a regular hotel room. If staying onsite is a must I would suggest you think about the cabins at Fort Wilderness. I accept that the idea of staying on a camp ground, even if it's Disney owned and run, isn't for everyone but I think for space and price it is by far the most economical option for a family of 5. If you do decide to look offsite I think the Holiday Inn family/kids suites would be worth consideration. The kids get their own room with bunkbeds for the older kids and a smaller single bed ideal for the 5 Y old. They also get their own TV, CD/radio and games machine.

I concur on the cabins. We loved them. You don't have to go to bed at 8 pm when the kids do. You have some room to spread out and the atmosphere at the campground is very nice.

BUT, I would not recommend the cabins if you love the whole resort thing: shopping and going to the lounge for a couple of drinks, etc. The pools are aloso just that, pools - nothing themed or fancy. Very different vacation at the campground, but I think very relaxing with the kids. Another BIG plus in my book is that your car is right outside your door. At some of the deluxes, it can take 20 minutes to get to your car.

Okay, I am a family of ONE!! But I have seen so many posts about families of 5. Maybe Disney should build a resort that accomodates this family size much better. What are you thoughts?? Can they have a room with three beds maybe??

Also, can we request that a sticky be made with suggestions for a family of 5??

2 Connecting rooms at a value ($99 x 2 rack rate)
1 Room with Trundle at POR ($137 rack rate)
1 Room at a Deluxe or Home Away from Home - depends on your budget. A Deluxe would actually cost about the same as 2 rack-rate rooms at a value.

Cabin at FT Wilderness! Some of the transportation is not as fast as other WDW resorts, but overall the campground is great. And the cabins are fantastic! The extra space for the small amount of extra $$ is well worth it. And being in FW you have ready access to the Trails End Restaurant which is probably the most reasonably priced meal in WDW. The take out pizza and chicken wings are great too!

Yeah, they probably could build a resort that would accomodate families of 5, but why bother. Many of us get 2 rroms anyway, so Disney is making out just fine!!! If they did build one, it would probaly cost way too much for my budget!!!

We have stayed 5 to a room at POR, AB and found it to work just fine. We would much rather be a little cozy and be at a nicer resort. Of course, when budget allows we love the space at the deluxes, especially YC. But our stay at POR was 11 days, the price was right and we really enjoyed it. Watch for codes, I think we got it for around $100/ night. We stayed in AB14, great location to pool, food court and buses.

If a deluxe is out of the question I would go with 2 value rooms instead of 1 room at POR. I just dont think that trundle bed (yes they are no charge now) is going to be comfortable for someone for a week. The mattress is really not very think and it lies on a board. I would just go with 2 value rooms so everyone would have a real bed to sleep in. The addition benefits would be if the kids need to go to sleep, put them in one room to go to sleep and the adults can stay up in the other talking or watching tv, having 2 bathrooms is always a plus and having 2 tv's cant hurt either.

I also go to WDW with 5. I have stayed at CR in 1 wing room. I have stayed at POP in 2 connecting rooms. I have stayed in CBR in 2 connecting rooms. I will stay in 2 connecting rooms at POP (value) in the future. I was able to watch tV that was not disney. I was able to have the kids watch the story hour and my DS5 was out cold. My 2 DD16 then watched what they wanted and took showers at the same time as DH and me. The Tv's and the Bathrooms was well worth the extra $30. It got us up and out faster and in and into bed faster. Saved us at least 45 minutes every day. These advantages was worth more than the extra space the 2 rooms gave us.

Although we had plenty of room at CR (the rooms are bigger than most other resorts) we were all stressing over who gets to use the bathroom first. And lets face it everyone needs to use the bathroom when they hear the shower running. LOL

If money is not a prime issue then I would suggest considering a one bedroom DVC unit. These come with a separate bedroom suite (kingsize bed and jacuzzi in the bathroom), a living/dining area with a pull out double sofabed ( many people make use of the space by taking an air matress if the kids struggle to sleep together.) . The largest floor space in the units is offered by the OKW resort, but for location either the Beach Club Villas or Boardwalk villas are the best choice. You can walk through to Epcot and there is a "watertaxi" service to MGM studios. With a onebedroom you would have plenty of room to give you the option of placing the packaway crib in either the bedroom or the living/dining area with the other kids.

By renting DVC points from an owner you could probably snag a DVC one bedroom unit for less $$ than renting a regular delux hotel room from Disney.
