Me (46): Pretty adventurous eater but no red meat
DW (47): Mildly adventurous and allergic to all seafood
DD (15): Vegetarian (ovo-lacto) and not at all adventurous

We are regular visitors to WDW. This year will be DD's 17th trip. But we rarely do any sit-down meals on property, partly because we don't want to spend the time and partly because we don't want to spend the money. This year, however, we've discussed starting to try some of the nicer restaurants.

I'm going to browse the menus and try to pick one table service place to eat this year (we're going in August). I thought I'd also ask the experts for recommendations. We are open to pretty much anything that meets the above guidelines. It can be anywhere on property: park, hotel, DTD, etc. We have a car so transportation is not an issue. Price is not an issue either. We can afford the better places. We just generally choose not to.

So put on your thinking caps (or dining bibs) and let me have your suggestions.

You've managed to name the 2 places that were at the top of my list - Jiko and California Grill. I guess that's a good thing. I'll take a look at the menus. Keep the ideas coming, though.

I was going to suggest Octoberfest. Until you said the vegetarian. IT's different!

Yeh, California Grill.

I'm looking at the dinner menu for Jiko in the dining section of the site. While they have a couple of vegetarian appetizers, there is not a single veggie entree. I checked the children's menu and the only entree listed is a $41 filet mignon in a red wine sauce. Is that right? Doesn't sound right to me.

And while I would love California Grill personally, 11 of the 16 entrees are seafood and only 1 is vegetarian.

I think I'm remembering why we don't do table service restaurants onsite. I'll keep searching.

How about Teppan Edo (Japan Pavilion - hibachi/teppanyaki). This is my fave place to eat. Such yummy steaks. wow. Chicken is great too! Plus they have vegi options. The bonus is that its so much fun to watch. :thumbsup2 Quite entertaining!

I think at Cali Grill if you ask they can create something for you (including veggie sushi) that would be vegetarian. The steak here is great and so are all the meat dishes so I think your dh would have enough to choose from. All they need is one dish he wants to eat so I don't think it should be too hard. The same goes for Jiko - I would ask what they could do for your dd. Both you and dh should find things easily here. You could also look at Sanaa which should meet all your requirements but the flavors may be too different for your family.

Les Chefs de France in EPCOT. If you want to save money, go for lunch because it's much cheaper, plus it's nearly empty at the early lunch times.
It's very quaint and they don't use a lot of spice or fancy meat. They have mac and cheese! :woohoo:
Here's a menu:

stay AWAY from the crystal palace, please. Absolute worst character meal in WDW. It's crowded, noisy, and you literally see the characters for about 30 seconds before they rush off to another table.

Personally, I would go with Artist Point. There's a good variety, the atmosphere is beautiful, the servers are excellent, and they have some of the best vegetarian entrees of all the signatures in my personal opinion.

Here's our cast of characters:

DH - 52 & very adventurous
Me - 49 and deathly allergic to all fish/shellfish
DD - 23 adventurous
DD - 18 extremely picky & non-adventurous

These are our favorites (pretty much MUST DO's each trip):

1. Jiko. I seem to remember they have a macaroni that DD18 loves. DH goes for a fish entree, I always have the chicken - it is incredible & a welcome change from the steak I end up having at most places.

2. Artist Point. Salmon for DH - he was raised with Pacific NW grandparents & says this is the best. Buffalo for me. Ymm. Cobbler for everyone. Picky dd loves their mushroom soup.

3. Hollywood Brown Derby. There are lots of things we like here, but we all adore the cobb salad. Note for those allergic to fish, the dressing has Worcestershire sauce. They will use a different dressing if you ask.

4. Japan - the hibachi tables can be risky if you have someone with a fish allergy but they will work with you if it is noted when you make your reservation.
