Sugar Withdrawal

I started Atkins last Friday and have lost 4 pounds over the weekend. I'm very motivated right now, but this is killing me.

I never thought of myself as being addicted to sugar, but I guess I was/am. I am going through somewhat of a withdrawal period right now. I never stopped to think about everything that we eat that has sugar in it even though it's not sweet.

I'm figuring that it will take a few more days before I'm not hungry all the time. I am eating as much as before, only not the high-carb stuff, so I know that I'm not hungry, but my stomach doesn't understand that yet.

My first goal is to lose enough to have a black dress that I own cut down for my office Christmas party, and then I want a new tankini for next summer... that I'll look good in.

Congratulations on your weekend loss!! I remember when I started Atkins, I posted a thread much like yours!
I was going CRAZY for some sugar--I didn't care what form it was in, I just wanted something!! It lasted me about 1-1 1/2 days, then I had lots of energy, and didn't feel hungry at all! It is very important to the plan that you stay on! Don't give up now!!
I have been on Atkins since 6/16/03 and to date have lost 33 pounds! You can do it! Be sure to drink your water, and eat enough protein, to ward off the hunger!
4 pounds since Friday is great!! You will continue to feel better every day!!

I DO feel better and I had to laugh after lunch today. I went home from work and grilled salmon and served it to myself with bleu cheese crumbles on top. That sure beats the dish of ice cream with chocolate sauce, jimmies and whipped cream that I would have had last Monday. I feel more than satisfied now.

The worst part of this was passing on my Dad's birthday cake yesterday. If I could get past that, I can get past anything.

I really really understand how you feel.....:(
I started last monday. So i am on day 8 now. I have not had bad cravings till yesterday, and boy are they bad!!!
I am sooooo hungry and have been for 2 days I am eating soo much meat, but it is still not helping...:confused: :confused: :confused:
I am now trying cheese but i am really struggling. I think it is a mental thing...maybe not phyical:)

Keep going as you will really enjoy wearing your black dress!!:cool:
Funny really , my goal is also about a Dress. I am going to a ball at xmas and i am in the process of designing mine. (i manage a bridal shop so i have many elabouate ideas for it) .
I have till nov 15th b4 i have to have my first set of measurements done by the seamstress

Well hopefully i have waffled so much i have taken your mind of things...lol

Have you guys read the book? Make sure you eat enough of all the allowable foods, so you don't burn out! A lot of people do Atkins without reading and understanding the book, and they think it is all about meat and cheese.

The withdrawal symptoms are subsiding, finally and I was off 5.5 pounds this morning. Whee Hee! I honestly feel like a million bucks, so it should only get easier now. I have the book on my kitchen counter marked to the allowable foods and we reference it often.

I feel like I don't need coffee anymore, too. I have so much more energy since I'm not burning carbs off.

Please remind me that I think this is great and easy when I start getting burned out later.

I thought of another place I can wear my black dress... my DH's class reunion is Thanksgiving weekend. Oh, so many reasons to lose!
