Do you suppose that a place like T Rex might let someone on DDP get Colasso Nachos as an entree? I am imagining I am about to hear a lot of "it depends on the restaurant" responses. But, has anyone ever tried it and what were the results?

:)

I haven't tried that item specifically, but in my experience, one of the few consistent things with the dining plan is that you cannot substitute every/any appetizers for an entree or dessert. The third party locations get reimbursed by Disney based on specific categories of items, so an appetizer wouldn't qualify for the entree reimbursement. However, as you said, you can always ask, but I would be prepared to be told no.

(I've been reading the rumors that there are now a few select appetizer style items that may be substituted for a dessert - e.g., small house salad, fruit, etc. - but no one has indicated that it has extended to a wider portion of the appetizer menu.)

No substitutions, exchanges or refunds...

Sorry...couldn't help it.

No. Even though the price of the Colossal Nachos is about the same as a sandwich or burger on their menu, it is listed as an appetizer. Since Disney reimburses the third party restaurants according to the rules of the dining plan, T-Rex would not be reimbursed since it is on the appetizer section of the menu. You could, however, pay out of pocket for it and save your credit for a different restaurant or a 2 credit experience.

What else did you expect?

Now THIS is even more what I expect from you, Scupper. I have to imagine you're not even a quarter as abrasive in real life as you can be on these boards.

To entertain you, I'll answer your question as though it wasn't designed to be snarky. What I expected was to get helpful answers to my question from people that have been to some of these NON DISNEY OWNED plan participants.

For instance, if I owned a restaurant, and someone wanted to make such a substitution I would certainly allow it. It's good customer service, good for word of mouth, and good for overall customer retention. So my question was designed to find out if non Disney owned restaurants stick to the language of the DDP strictly, or if they are more customer friendly, so long as the MATH works for them.

Now, the answer as given by some helpful folks above seems to be that plan reimbursements made by Disney for use of DDP within these establishments generally dictate that such substitutions are not feasible, I got my answer. HOWEVER, see above, some folks report being able to make JUST SUCH SUBSTITUTIONS at Rainforest. How 'bout that!

Scupper, by all means, I won't be offended if you release yourself of the burden of having to respond to my questions, since you find them that annoying. Although, looking a second time at it, you didn't actually respond to my question, did you? You did something else entirely there.

I agree with you that it is something you should be able to substitute, but rules are rules. I say, it never hurts to ask, and have a plan b when it sounds like you will hear no.
