Substituting desserts

hello all! We leave in 10 days so excited! This is our first time with the DDP. I'm wondering exactly what you can substitute desserts for at table service? We're going with my two year old who we were just going to ask for an extra plate to share with. We aren't typically dessert eaters anyway so just trying to plan ahead. Also examples of substitutions for quick service? Thanks :-)

You can substitute dessert for soup or salad at table service locations that offer soup or salad as a side or an appetizer.

This is not necessarily true. Each TS restaurant decides what, if anything, they will let you have instead of dessert. At some places, that may mean the soup or a side salad. Others may offer you a vegetable. Still others will only allow some fruit. And many of them will not allow anything. You will just have to ask at every restaurant.

As for QS, you can trade your dessert/drink for anything that has the purple snack logo next to it. Probably 75% of QS, the only snacks are drinks and desserts. But some QS do have soup, fries, side salads, fruit, etc as an alternative.

Thank you!!

.

We were able to make this substitution as I described at every TS restaurant we dined at over the past two weeks. So yes, I believe it is true.

We were in Disney World on DDP 2 weeks ago. We did not find all the restaurants willing to do substitutions.

I'm curious to OP's question too, because DH has diabetes and desserts -- unless they are sugar free -- are a "no no." I've not seen any sugar free dessert options, so could he swap, or have fruit for dessert, or even ask for a chef to create something? Just wondering what our options will be.

Morimotos was one. It is a 2 ticket meal we wanted to substitute apps for dessert. Also with Kona but that may have been our server. After that meal our ddp credits had to be straightened out by the front desk. I would just ask at each restaurant. From our experiences it is not a uniformed thing.

That's too bad. I've found that as long as there is a soup or salad on the menu with a comparable price, the restaurant has been willing to substitute.

Most TS restaurants do have a sugar free option, but if that doesn't appeal to him, just ask. They are usually willing to work with you when it is a dietary issue.

You cannot sub a true appetizer for the dessert. Not surprised there

Bog reports indicate you can swap dessert for soup but they will not swap out drink for anything

But this is only at lunch, right? OP was asking about TS. Will BoG do the substitution for dinner?
