Subscriptions to Symantec Virus updates

I have to renew a year subscription to get the latest updates and it says it is $24.95 !!! I KNOW it was not that much last year. Is there a cheaper/better way I can get these??

I don't know how much it was last year, because we usually end up buying a new copy at a computer show. That usually costs us $10 or $15.

I was going to renew the subscription this year when it ran out. However, a month before the free subscription ran out my computer crashed & I had to format & re-install everything. That started another free year...and yes, I did use the exact same IP address, registration # & contact info.
