For Easter going to a potluck. Does anyone know how much the sandwich platters at costco are? I did a search but nothing came up. I seen 2 long sub sandwich breads in a package for $2.85@ costco. I thought I could make subs then slice in 2 inches , stick one of those long toothpicks that have the colored tips with plastic, anyways it holds the sandwich in place.I thought I could make a nice platter . The subs would have turkey, cheese, tomatos, lettuce and pickles. On top of the sub I'd put a balck or green olive then stick the party toothpick through olive and sandwich.Mustard and mayo would be on the side. Dh was ok with the idea cause his family is laid back but now that his Dad, stepmom and her adult kids MIGHT show up he said to just buy a sub which is $30-$40. Yes now he's cares what they will think. No one else in his family spends a lot of money on bringing food. Most likely they will bring
homemade cake, mac salad, deviled eggs, canned fruit cocktail salad. His one cousin that has money said she will bring chicken(ordered) but 50/50 chance she will show up.

So any of you make your own sub sandwich (we call is grinders here in my area) party platters? Anyone buy them from Sam's or costco if so how much is it?

oh so for this 1st potluck I'm also making a pasta salad(perfect with grinders) and was told to take a bag of easter filled eggs.

The 2nd party we have to go to we were told to take hotdogs, hotdog buns and sodas .

Here comes the frugal part of me. How about make own sub platter or sandwich platter.

You could get some chicken and ham salad make sandwich your self.

I think our Sam Club sell sandwich ring for 15.00 to 25.00 dollars give take.

The frugal person in me too was thinking of making it myself. Then dh made me feel like it was a cheesy idea once he found out his Dad and step mom might be there:sad2:
my local grocery store charges ...
wreath sandwich ring 34.99
super sub 32.99
croissant sandwich tray 39.99

I know Wal-mart sells whole subs for around $5 each. They are huge because I have gotten them for my teenage DSs to share before. You could just get those and cut them up and put a tooth pick in them. You could also get a pound of shaved or sliced ham and turkey and make a deli tray which would be cheaper than to buy one.

Walmart also makes the big subs using their loaves of French bread. They are pretty reasonably priced.

I made my own for a work baby shower last year. I got the pack of 8 sub rolls at Sams club for aroun $2.50 , The Oscar Meyer Sub Pack (Ham and Turkey) for around $5 - $7. Lettuce and Tomato. I made 8 subs and cut them into 4ths. So I got 32 3 - 4 inch sammy's. I put the in a long basket lined with a pretty towel and filled the center with chips. Do it your self is much cheaper and you can make it look much prettier:thumbsup2

I recently bought one of the sandwich platters from BJs for an event. The bread was shaped in a big ring (it looked sort of like a giant bagel) and the sandwich had ham, turkey, roast beef, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes on it. The ad said that is served 12-15. I cut it into 12 pieces (I thought about a clock to portion it, I made a cut at 12 and 6, then 3 and 9, then 1 and 7, etc). THen I cut each of those 12 pieces in half. We fed 14 people that night, and 4 people ate the leftover the next day. THe roast beef, turkey and ham were piled on top of each other, so some people removed one or more types of meat. It cost $27.99

I think that your plan is fine. It's easy to make the sandwiches as you describe at home, I only bought it for convenience.

BJs sells 6ft subs for under 30.00 They are a mainstay at any of the parties we have. Can't beat the price or convenience and they are really tasty too:goodvibes

I used Sam's sub rings. They are supposed to feed 16-20 people. They definitely did. I think they were $22 each.

I'd be careful when serving deli meats to a pregnant woman...it is warned against. There is a higher risk of listeriosis. My Drs. have told me to keep away from all pre-cooked meat unless they are heated to steaming hot before consuming.

Otherwise...I love sandwich rings.

We did deli platters for my bat mitzvah brunch 9 years ago. My aunt and uncle are doing the same thing for brunch for my cousins bat mitzvah in 2 weeks.

But part of the reason we do this is because we prefer deli meats and chesses from kosher delis so BJs, Costco, etc just don't measure up to what we prefer.

Also, not everyone likes their sandwiches teh same way so it gives more options. We had 70 people at our house for that brunch. There was no way we were doing premade subs.

I recently ordered the croissant sandwich platter from Costco on two separate occasions. It was 29.99 and came with 30 small sandwiches (it's the really big croissants from the bakery cut into thirds). It was really good, there was ham & swiss, turkey & provolone, and roast beef & cheddar. They all had lettuce. They also give you a little tub of regular mayo and also pesto mayo. It was enough to feed about 20 people (served with other sides of course).

These platters are really good!:thumbsup2
