It never occured to me (though it might have once I started trying to plan with it!) to book weekday stays first because it's so much easier to book the weekend part of the trip at the 7 month window (since i tend to think of things in terms of "weeks"). I never though of it that way!

But, I'm not complaining, it's a good thing!

I also think that Grand Villas can sometimes be able to get in March, a couple of years ago, we booked a Grand Villa, checking in on a Thursday, and when we arrived....they gave us our room, it was ready, and it was only 9:30 AM.....it was wonderful!

I don't want to gore anyone's ox here but what if there were a point incentive for mid-week instead of a penalty for weekends. I was thinking the points per night go up except for Tue and Thu where they would be half the other days. Something like where now weekdays are 30pts and weekends 60 - it would be 45 pts except TUE and THU which would be 22. This would drive a different strategy. The weekends would be somewhat cheaper (maybe too cheap?) and the "bargain days would encourage mid-week/whole week stays. Making a 3-day res to pick-up the bargain days would cost as much as now. A five-day would cost a little more than now (discouraging "sweet-spot" renting). It just seems less likekly that people would use only 3 days in the middle of the week. Anyway, was just sort of thinking at the keyboard - please don't hurt me!

I like "sweet spot" renting. Not all of us have 500 points and can go for weeks at a time. I have 200, and if I go for 7 nights, I get to go once per year. If I go for 5 days midweek, I get to go twice per year. Nuff Said.

Robin - there are still only two rates regular (45) and discounted (22).
I do believe that any major rate structure change would be unfair - people have purchased points according to their understanding of the rules (of course one of the rules is the rules may change - within other rules of course).
I know for myself, I prefer a carrot (bargain nights) to a stick (expensive nights) to influence my behavior.

I agree with the concept, but thought that's what we already have.
Bargain nights for me right now are Sun-Thurs!

I guess it still boils down to whether you view the glass and half empty or half full.

One reason I believe DVC does not redistribute the points to even the usage is Disney World sees a higher reservation demand for weekends through CRO. Keeping weekend points high for memebers allows a greater number of weekends to be rented to non-members. Most CRO reservations use weekends in their trip. Personally, any vacation I take always uses atleast one weekend but usually two. Getting time off from work is hard enough not take advantage of weekends.

What is important is whether all seven days of the week are reserved in an equal fashion at the END of the reservation process (i.e., just before the Breakage point).

I doubt that; I think the opposite would.

I disagree. All seven days should be reserved in an equal fashion at all times in the reservation process. I don't see how it is benificial to have weekends available but not weekdays. This does not make it easy to rent a full week. I think if any one time is not available that would lower member satisfaction. I know if I wanted a seven night reservation I would not be pleased if one night was not available regardless if it was Friday or Wednesday.

I agree with Doc on this one...I think the problem does exist more in our minds than reality..A weeks worth of points is a weeks worth of points...If they take away from fri/sat, they must go to sun - Thursday.

When we initially purchased, we secured enough points for a one week, 7 night visit. We've added on twice, because we no longer find 7 nights enough! lol!! Initially, we did juggle our time to avoid weekends, paid cash etc., and then came to the conclusion the easiest solution, for us, was to add more points.

I believe we number over 55,000 DVC members today..we all bought in understanding the current point structure, and many DVC sales reps have pointed out to members that they can maximize their vacations by avoiding weekends, or staying at an all star resort etc. before checking into their DVC resort. I believe DVC would have some very angry folks on their hands if the program was tampered with to drastically change the point structure.

Being from new england, we're happy to see the weekend points being higher..I know if we lived closer, we would jump at the chance for a quick DVC weekend get-away. Higher weekend points does discourage this, and, in fact, we were advised by our DVC sales rep that was the reason for the point differential.

I like the system just the way it is!
