I was vacuuming before putting up my tree when I noticed an odd smell (like smoke) from my vacuum cleaner. I looked, and the bag full light was on, so I changed the bag. Then after changing the bag, the smell continued and the pedal that adjusts the agitator height popped making it impossible to adjust the agitator.

I called my folks and they said it might be the belt. So I opened it up and sure enough the belt was broken. But here's the kicker- it was partially melted to the vacuum cleaner. I was able to remove the belt, but not all of the melted part. Is it even worse trying a different belt or am I looking at having to buy a new vaccum cleaner?

If you really like your vacuum cleaner, I would work on scraping off the melted belt, maybe with a putty knife, and buy a new belt. Belts are wear items and are usually not that difficult to replace.

If you don't like it, maybe it's time to invest in a new vacuum!!!

I too would scrape and try a new belt.. If it doesn't work, you're only out a few bucks for the belt..

Good luck! :santa:

Make sure you get the right size belt, my roomate and I went through 7 in a week cause we bought the wrong size.
