Ok, so we fedex'ed our paperwork yesterday! Yea!! I am booking SSR in Nov 08 for June 2009, I want to book the Wonder in Jan 09 for June 2010. I'm still trying to get the rules right. The points are there b/c the SSR is booked w/extra points for buying AKV. So i will use 2008 and 2009 points for the cruise (is that right). How do I do this and can i do this? Thanks for your help!

Seems your use year is Dec? Am I correct? If so, you would bank your 08 points by July 09 and then as long as you have enough points by the time your trip comes you can book your cruise whenever (jan 09) if that is first available time to book it (I am also new to this & I don't know if you have to be so many months out to do cruises) Banking 08 points will allow those points to "carry over" and then you would obtain your 09 points (in Dec??) if your trip is in June 2010 the only thing you would have to worry about is if for any reason you would have to cancel- your 2008 points would be lost if not used and you would have to use or bank 09 points quickly as not to lose them as well- As long as you don't think that you'd have to worry about cancellation you should be fine-
Someone else could probably give you a bit more detailed info though- We are also new & I have never taken a cruise- We are also staying on Developer points next year...

Once you use point for a cruise or non-DVC reservation that are no longer allowed to be transfered back to DVC resorts. If you cancel you would not be able to bank them with DVC but I believe you could bank them with II. Cancellation policies are different for non-DVC resorts.

thanks for the answers! So it seems as long as we don't cancel it should be fine? I'm still confused about banking times, but I'll learn that. i need my PIN # first and they have not mailed it yet. what do you do w/ your points if i do cancel? if 08 are lost and 09 can't go back to DVC, where can i spend it? Can i bank it for 2010? and then go to a DVC resort?

You would able to book non-dvc disney resorts, II and concierge collection. We chose to get the insurance in case cancellation was necessary. It only pays $5 per point but we figured that was better than nothing if we had to cancel the cruise. Some will say it is not the best use of points for a cruise but we had double developer points to use and did not want the hassle of renting out points.

If you call MS they can give you your pin# as long as you are already in the system.

When you book a cruise, the points become "reservation points". Reservation points can only be used outside of DVC. They expire at the end of the use year they were booked for. You cannot bank.
