Stupid question...no Matterhorn?

Okay, I've not been to DW since around the mid 90's and I don't remember if the Matterhorn was there, but I noticed it's not there now. I LOVE the Matterhorn in DL and was sad to see it's not at DW. Does anyone know why DW doesn't have it?

Matternhorn was never at WDW. There is no specific reason why, either way, as far as I can recall.

That's too bad....my kids went on it at DL when they were 3 and 6. It was one of their most favorite rides in the park, next to Splash, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates (Space Mountain was closed because they were redoing it to look more like the one at WDW). They keep talking about what rides they are going to go in next year and that's been mentioned. I'll have to tell them there's no Abominable (sp?) Snowman at WDW!

Disney has said that they only built one and that was at DL and no where ever since. Just like certian parks will only have certian rides that may or may not appear at another Disney park.

Every time someone says "Walt would never do that" I wonder how they would react if there was no Matterhorn anywhere, and someone suddenly suggested putting a Swiss Mountain at the top of Main St. "What would Walt do?" indeed. Who ever knew? I think that's what made him a genius.

while there is no matterhorn at WDW, in 2006 an attraction with a similar YETI theme will open. Expedition Everest and it looks freaking amazing! I can't wait to ride it.

I got to do the Matterhorn last year, and while I wasn't thrilled with the bobsled, it was nice to ride on one of the orignals.

We especially love riding it at night. I was also disappointed that it's not in WDW. But, maybe the new Mountain they're building in Animal Kingdom will be similar!?

I'm going to miss the Matterhorn too.
I will miss the Blue Bayou as well. It was so nice to see pirates from there and there from pirates.

I think the new ride at AK will be far more of a "thrill ride" than the Matterhorn.
Which is too bad for folks like me--I'd probably get on the Matterhorn, but not even thinking about riding Expedition Everest.

They DID want to build the Matterhorn.

In fact, they started building it. There's support structure for it behind It's A Small World. But then they opened Epcot, and they thought it would be a wonderful addition to a Swiss pavilion.
