Stupid question - how do I go about changing OB's?

I looked up hospitals in your area and St. Mary's seems to be one that specializes in high risk OB care. They have the only level 3 neonatal unit that I could find. That usually means the OB will also be high risk. I don't know what hospital you are going to but I think you should try to be at a hospital that has the best that can be gotten. I understand it depends on insurance and all. There is an easy to use physician search tool. Good luck to you.

St Mary's IS my deliverying hosptial.. it's the only one my office delivers at. They are the only hospital in the area that accepts medicad and can't pay patients so you get all sorts in there. And it seems to make it a less "caring" environment. They want you in and out as fast as possible, it doesn't matter who you are.

I don't know why they wouldn't consider you high risk. You certainly sound high risk.

I am wondering, since they wouldn't address or believe I had any other problem with the pain besides being "pregnant". I was diagnosed with an ulcer 9 years ago, i've heard once you have one, it doesn't go away. With all the stress and all in my life the past 2 weeks, I wonder if that is it. It's the same feeling for the most part, like a pain/burning in my lower chest/upper stomach with nausia. Who would I go to and how would I get this addressed if my ob office doesn't give a flip less? This is the 4th day now, and i'm still having issues.

Okay so after you said that it sounds like you could have GERD( gastro-esophageal reflux disease)...this is not uncommon to start at 1st and 2nd trimester. It is due to the high levels of estrogens and especially progesterone. The good news is that it will usually go aways after delivery.

They are the symptoms that you are talking about. Has your Dr. mentioned that this is what you could be suffering with?

Try this and see if it helps. First avoid anything acidic, such as fruit juices, tomoato juice, also coffee, chocolate. Eat many small meals and do not lye down after eating...stay upright. Do not eat a few hrs before going to bed. If you can elevate the head of your bed or yourself 6-8 inches...for the bed elevate it using blocks or what ever safely works...for yourself you can go and buy a firm foam rubber pad in the shape of a wedge that will incline you...you can also try sleeping in a recliner elevated.

You can try some antacids like tums to see if they help or call your Dr. and ask him for some suggestions on what to use...he can recommend something stronger.

I haven't called my regular physician because they refuse to see you if you are pregnant..

Thanks for the info "Got Disney"...

If you are not dialating it is very most likely that you are having Bracks and hicks contractions. [/QUOTE]

An L&D nurse for 22 years and you don't know "Braxton Hicks":confused3

anyway, i wanted to change my OB for my entire first pregnancy and didn't. really wish I had gone with my gut and changed, i probably would have had the type of birth i really wanted. 2nd time i had a midwife (in her own practice) and she was very knowledgable, kind and took her time with me. i had the exact birth i planned and wanted.

good luck OP, i'd say make that change!
eta, want the name of my widwife, PM me? it's been a while but i think she's still around.

Spelling is not my forte when typing fast..I have enough trouble thinking about typing never spelling....and yes not only was I L&D I passed nursing school with high honors.

But it is important to state that because you and everyone else has no idea who I m or what I say is as you and everyone eles on this thread so she needs to not take this to heart and take her suggestions of what we say to her MD.

I am who I say I am...just bad typing and spelling...but great nusrse!!!!was a charge nurse for 8 years.
