My son has a Canon Powershot A620 and it takes SD memory cards. Can anyone tell me is there a limit for the GB size this camera can take?
I would like to buy him a 2GB card for his upcoming holiday but have no idea if this will work in his camera....
Thanks if anyone can help me!

I checked the advanced manual and I do not see a max Gig listed, it does say the video function will only record 1gig at a time but it doesn't say it's limited to 1gig. Call Cannon and ask to make sure.

The most common compatibility issue with memory sizes and video cameras is the type of file system that they use. The most common two are FAT16 and FAT32. FAT16 has a limit of about 2 gig. FAT32 is virtually unlimited.

With a FAT16 camera, if you use a card larger than 2 gig and format it in the camera, it will probably work, but only use 2 gig. Then again, it may freak out, so I wouldn't try it unless I was desperate.

I didn't see any indication on Canon's website about what file system the A620 uses. I did find a review at Amazon that claims it uses FAT32, so you are probably safe. Either way, anything up to 2 gig is likely to be OK.

Most cameras should work with a 2g card size - when they get over 4g, like Mark said, they are formatted in FAT32 format, and are labelled as SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) - only relatively new cameras (or some slightly older ones with a firmware update) support those cards.

Thank you for all of your help..checked the online manual and it says that memory cards up to 2GB have been tested so we're going to go with that!
Have a great holiday season!
